911 dispatchers are often the first people to respond when someone calls for help. They guide parents through CPR, help victims escape dangerous situations, coordinate emergency resources, and make critical decisions that can mean the difference between life and death.

Pennsylvania’s 911 system faces a nearly $100 million annual funding shortfall. Without an increase to the 911 surcharge, our counties and local property taxpayers will continue to shoulder that financial burden.

We must recognize the people who answer the call, ensure our 911 systems have the resources they need, and take action to protect the future of emergency communications across Pennsylvania.

I spoke in support of House Bill 453, companion legislation to Senate Bill 623, which I introduced alongside Senator Brooks to formally recognize 911 dispatchers as first responders.

These dedicated professionals deserve recognition for the critical role they play in protecting our communities. But recognition must also be accompanied by action.

Data centers have far-reaching impacts that extend well beyond the communities where they’re built. From our water and energy supplies to electric bills, the environment, land use, and the long-term health of our communities, these projects affect all of us.

That’s why residents across Pennsylvania are calling for a statewide moratorium. We need time to fully evaluate the impacts, understand the long-term consequences, and put strong, statewide protections in place before these projects have an opportunity to move forward.

Our communities deserve transparency, accountability, and a voice in decisions that will affect generations to come. Pennsylvania must put people first.

🍂 While driving up to Lackawanna County earlier this week, the fall colors were nearing their peak, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful! Take some time this weekend to enjoy the crisp fall air, get outside, and appreciate the natural beauty that Pennsylvania has to offer. 🍁

Yesterday, I joined PA Stands Up and residents from across NEPA who are standing up against the 16 proposed hyperscale data centers and associated power-generating facilities across the region.

People deserve a say in what happens in their own backyards, and families deserve to know that the places they call home and the investments they’ve made in their communities will be protected.

When our communities stand together, our voices are harder to ignore. I’ll continue fighting for the people of Pennsylvania and for decisions that put our communities, our health, and our future first. #PAISNOTFORSALE

I’m grateful to Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan for being a leading voice in this fight and for the work happening in Lackawanna County to study the cumulative public health impacts of these proposals.

This first-of-its-kind effort in the country takes into account not only the proposed data centers, but also the existing industrial operations that have already placed a burden on the region’s air, water, and public health.

Our communities are connected, and we cannot afford to treat these proposals as isolated local issues when the consequences for our air, water, public health, and energy costs extend far beyond municipal and county lines.

Today, we honor the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous communities. Senate District 44 sits on the ancestral lands of the Lənape Haki-nk (Lenni-Lenape), whose deep connection to this land spans thousands of years.

Their legacy reminds us of the importance of respecting our natural environment and preserving it for future generations. From the land itself to familiar place names like Manayunk, Conshohocken, and Neshaminy, the Lenape’s presence remains part of Pennsylvania’s history.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall day at West Vincent Fall Fest, complete with a pet parade! 🐾🍂 A big thank you, as always, to Steve Bazil and Gale Rippel for making sure our furry friends get their moment in the spotlight.

Senator Kury was a champion for Pennsylvania’s environment and a driving force behind Article I, Section 27 of our state Constitution, the Environmental Rights Amendment. It established Pennsylvanians’ constitutional right to clean air, pure water, and the preservation of our natural resources.

I had the privilege of meeting Senator Kury in 2021, & we spoke about the amendment he fought so hard to establish and the responsibility our generation has to uphold it. I think about that conversation often. His legacy is still with us today & it is our responsibility to carry that work forward.

‼️I planned to offer an amendment to SB1408 today containing the language of SB1359, which would establish a statewide 3-year moratorium on hyperscale data centers & related infrastructure. Not surprisingly, the Majority Party decided to not bring the bill up for a vote after we submitted our amendment

Some legislators in the Majority Party love to talk about supporting a statewide moratorium when the cameras are on & they need a political talking point, but where were they today when their caucus, that controls the voting calendar in the Senate, refused to bring the amendment up for a vote? 🧐

PennDOT’s 10th annual Innovations Challenge is asking students in grades 9–12 to develop a new solution to help prevent over-height vehicles from striking bridges and tunnels. 📅 Submissions are due January 29, 2027. Know a student, teacher, or school that might be interested? Share this with them!
