Heads-up: for the next week, higher tides may bring water onto low-lying areas along San Francisco’s waterfront, even without rain. If you’re planning a waterfront walk, bike ride, or outing, check conditions before you go.

Heads up: Caltrans plans to close all westbound I-80 lanes between 5th and 15th streets this weekend from Friday, 10/23 at 11 p.m. through Monday, 10/26 at 6 a.m. 5th Street is the last exit before the closure. Plan your route before heading out and allow extra travel time.

After shaking stops, check your surroundings. If your building is visibly unsafe, evacuate carefully to a nearby open space. Otherwise, shelter in place and avoid travel in the immediate aftermath of a damaging earthquake. Never re-enter a damaged building.

We remember the lives lost. We can honor the memory of that day by taking a step to prepare: secure a heavy item, refresh your supplies, and talk to your people about what you’ll do without cell service, water, or power.

Prepare to stay at home with no utilities for about a week - start by storing at least one gallon of water per person, per day. Keep a battery-powered radio for updates if cell service is unavailable. We will use KCBS 740 AM / 106.9 FM to send emergency updates.
