Finally finished my redesign of the PATH map. I redid the current spaghetti-like map into one closer resembling a subway map with numbered buildings à la the Tokyo Metro Map. I've often seen tourists (or even longtime residents) try to use the PATH and just end up going back upstairs.

This is like when Kanye West was on every result of the 2020 US presidential election (also Chow doubling Bradford in his old ward loool they hate him fr)

The TTC is so funny. Imagine trying to explain to someone at King station that the 504A and 504B represents four different routes. The 504A streetcar to Broadview The 504B bus to Broadview The 505B streetcar to Broadview... station The 504A bus to almost Distillery but not quite

Maybe he's on to something. High-vis vests will make it easier for the image of you flopping over the hood to be seared into the memory of the driver for the rest of their life.

Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing. "I think you should do everything you can to ensure you're visible," he said. www.thejournal.ie/driving-phon...

Elections Canada provides polls with enough ballots for everyone on the list on the rare occurrence that everyone votes. Cutting corners for cost just invites these problems that often hit the most marginalised.

Here's an odd thing near Humber College I noticed. What looks like a busway, has 200m of continuous bus shelters, has a direct turn off Hwy 50, and goes straight into the bus terminal actually prohibits buses. Buses instead make two lefts and drops off across the street from the LRT station :/

We understand that key personnel at Verdi Alliance may be high-level donors to Doug Ford’s party. CBC reporting based on publicly available records appears to show that five directors with Verdi Alliance donated over $12,000 to the Ontario PC Party between 2021-22.

The Toronto Police arrested Aly Van Wyck-Smart, a Paralympian with cerebral palsy who was protecting part of the bike lane from removal. On the bright side, the construction workers put the bollards back and said we'd won for the day.

It's almost as if we are looking to build a 1000km-long, continuous line of steel track within the next century.

Stelco’s American owners have broken their commitments. Their CEO supports Trump’s tariffs, which are designed to deindustrialize our economy and destroy our manufacturing base. If we’re serious about saving the Canadian steel industry, Canada must nationalize Stelco. www.ndp.ca/news/ndp-lea...

The MTO intends to violate their construction permit and begin work during the day to remove bike lanes. If you can, head down to the area but if not await urgent call outs for more info on when the removals are starting so we can have all out for that.

It doesn't help these things' credibility when I saw two staff and a supervisor leaning on one and laughing at how stupid they were. $2 million is no small cost and would've paid for 1/25th of PEDs at TMU.

I think even bidding on this should ban the company from ever being hired by the City of Toronto to do work.

The Ontario Government does municipal road design now apparently. "wants bidders to provide plans to “remove or relocate” islands, medians and gutters and “incorporate congestion relief measures at all major intersections to improve traffic flow, such as traffic signal adjustments"

Over the weekend, the Bradford campaign challenged the media to do this "scavenger hunt" to uncover supposed places where Olivia Chow frittered away the provincial New Deal money. Challenge accepted. From my newsletter this week, here’s what I found.

It's obvious why Putin wouldn't want 🇦🇲🇬🇪🇺🇦🇲🇩 etc to join the EU since it would bring stability, peace, and wealth that would prevent Russian subversion, dismantle oligarchic control of institutions, and wane reliance on Russia. I can only assume Trump doesn't want Canada to join for the same reason.

Every year I fill out the Downtown Yonge BIA's survey about safety. Every year I try to fit in how cars are the biggest safety threat into questions that are clearly fishing for blame towards those experiencing homelessness.

This goes above and beyond MTA's already formidable 12 trips/week and would kick in for every single person commuting to work and school 5 days/week.

Pedestrians and streetcars regularly occupy the same space elsewhere, even during high-traffic events, and somehow without disrupting the commutes of 60,000+ people/day.

So basically, Hungary is getting a discount on the participation fee for them to return. Likely the same case for Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova to return last year. I assume Canada is paying for this, since the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, Slovenia, and Ireland are not? telex.hu/after/2026/0...

Our new policy brief summarizes research on transit enforcement which found that mechanisms vary widely across Cdn cities; tickets are higher than for parking infractions; costs exceed generated revenue; marginalized populations are disproportionately impacted https://ow.ly/FHQN50ZvVoF

Currently on the 509/510 bus from Union (only a few buses according to Transsee). It was so packed it left people behind. The majority got off one stop later at the Ferry Terminal bc Google Maps suggested this route. If only there was some sort of redesign to let people walk via the PATH instead.

My Toronto Star take on festival challenges: 1. Crowds aren’t the problem; poor spatial planning is. Many festivals have outgrown the car-centric streets and spaces where they began. Their growth needs to be matched with permanent pedestrianization, better design, and placemaking approaches.

"hire another 1,000 police officers" is really just the toronto political candidates' version of "send another $20 billion to israel"

Very happy to be speaking with CBC Metro Morning's Chris Glover tomorrow at 7:20 AM about my PATH redesign. Should be fun!
