Really cool of ABC News and the owners of The Twisted Spine horror bookstore in Brooklyn to include our NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT anthologies in their spotlight interview, both on camera and in the article. Read the article and watch the 3 min~ interview at the link below: abc7ny.com/videoClip/19...

This is the eighth week for NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT, PART II: BACK FOR BLOOD on the national Indie Bestsellers List. The original anthology is in its 106th week too. Thank you for supporting the new anthology at indie bookshops and spreading kind words about the stories. NWAN2.com

A gentle request for anyone making spooky book lists: Could you please feature NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT, PART II: BACK FOR BLOOD instead of the original? We want to give the new contributors their moment in the spotlight. Plus, featuring PART II naturally lets readers know PART I exists. Hohóú! 😊

Had a terrific time hosting @mathildazeller.bsky.social at Mysterious Galaxy this evening as she’s on tour promoting her new novel, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU IN THE DARK. It just released on Oct 13 via Tor Nightfire and should not be missed! Please consider getting yourself a hardcover or the audiobook.

PUBLIC ACCESS AFTERWORLD by Jane Schoenbrun • Shoutout to Hogarth Books for mailing me this hardcover of Jane’s novel a couple of weeks early. You probably know Jane’s film/tv work like “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.” This is a highly anticipated read for me. Hohóú.

Never Whistle at Night, Part II: Back for Blood is officially on AUDIO CD. Yeah, 10 discs. Holy! It exists; it’s real. It’s cool. I just got it today. Produced by Random House Canada. Packaged by Blackstone Publishing. NWAN2.com

I spent the evening of my 2026 #Indigenous Peoples’ Day at the brand-new Barnes & Noble location in San Marcos, CA. I signed so many #horror #books and chatted with lovely folks, many of them also #Native, that the line was constant for over an hour. Just a great time. NWAN2.com

The New York Public Library just published their 2026 Best New Horror for Adults list, and we are honored to have NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT, PART II: BACK FOR BLOOD included amongst so many other great horror titles. Long live libraries! Make use of them whenever you can; librarians are amazing.

Wishing Kimberly Blaeser a happy pub day for her prose debut: RED ANTS. It’s an amazing story collection that I had the pleasure of acquiring for Counterpoint Press and editing. It was longlisted for the National Book Awards which is an amazing achievement in itself.

It’s always wild to revisit episodes of The X-Files featuring Floyd Red Crow Westerman, cuz I’m just like, hey, there’s my grandpa’s friend.

Very much looking forward to chilling with Joey and talking comedy and horror. ICYMI, I wrote the foreword for this awesome book he’s putting out. Seeing his release-day comedy show, too, up in LA the night before at the Elysian Theater.

October 7th - San Diego, CA - @mystgalaxybooks.bsky.social I’ll be in conversation with @shanehawk.com (Never Whistle At Night) about my Native history comedy book, his work and all things Native laughs and scares!

Like this post if you’d watch a NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT television series. Reply with which stories you’d love to see adapted.

I realize the article is becoming paywalled for some folks. Here is what it will look like in print; it just lacks the photo of me in my horror office holding my daughter.

Did you know Eden Robinson has an epic fantasy novel coming out later this month? THE SORCERESS OF SKY SERPENTS hits shelves September 29th and feels like an Indigenous Game of Thrones. Grateful to have read it early for a blurb! Preorder it today and tell your local library to order copies too.

We Natives know all too well about broken promises, how signed treaties are a “treat” only for the colonizers. They were presented as mutually beneficial for the nascent fed government and Native Nations but were constantly disregarded or favored the Others.

When these wh!te men are proposing GenAI data centers on our Tribal lands, it’s just the 21st-century treaty. We bear all the risks and disruptions while they further destroy our sovereignty, our children’s futures, and The Land.

Any Treehouse of Horror fans? Got 2 of the 6 glow-in-the-dark cups from Jack in the Box tonight. (Jack in the Box started in San Diego, but I don’t honestly know how far spread across the country they are)

A successful opening night for our BACK FOR BLOOD exhibit at 101 Archer in Tulsa, Oklahoma where artist Brent Learned spoke about the new anthology. Around 500 folks showed! #Indigenous #horror #art

It includes an entrance wall w/ bloody creature prints, a curatorial statement from Jessica Doe, a share-your-worst-fears wall, and Brent’s 21 interior illustrations framed and accompanied by didactics. If you can make it to Tulsa, this exhibit will be at the 101 Archer Gallery until November 21st.

Feel good moment of the day: Newspaper photog came over to the house for some shots he forgot to take. Me: “Hey, did I ever show you the shot that got me interviewed by The Weather Channel?” Him: “Nope.” Me: “Here it is. Never edited. Shot on a Canon 7D at Salton Sea.” His jaw dropped. 😁📸

ANOKA is back from the dead. I took it out of print for over a year, but due to popular demand it’s available again. I’m selling signed copies for $10 shipped (US only) and if you’d like one, you can contact me at anoka(@)shanehawk(.)com Happy spooky season! ANOKAbook.com
