If we lose the Fourth Estate, we lose our democracy. We are losing the fourth estate. Very quickly. We are being lied to every day. We need to stand up and shout in order to get the news media back on track. It won't happen on its own.

If you don't have time for this nonsense, don't bother. I just figured it would make a nice diversion from Jojo Rabbit or, you know, making a living and creating meaningful art. (As they say, those who can't do, pester those who can.)

"wrong with me?" I somehow cut off part of my question. (10 minute doodle; my handwriting friend says fast is best.) Six weeks until I pester again. Unless you prefer even longer. There's a fine line, and all that. (You can't help being interesting, and shouldn't have to suffer weirdos as a result.)

I bet they count Mitch McConnell's vote. Meanwhile the living have to seriously question whether mail in ballots will be tossed out, and we'll see a severe reduction in polling places. I mean the game has always been rigged; it's just never been this blatantly obvious.

Taxing them? At this point we should be eating them. Probably safer than anything in the meat and produce aisles; definitely cheaper, and they likely don't run very quickly. (Reluctant disclaimer: I am not seriously suggesting cannibalizing people. Even awful ones. They'd harden your arteries.)

With feminism on many minds today, following the loss of Gloria Steinem, I want to bring up Half the Sky, by two Pulitzer winning journalists. It's gut wrenching, but hopeful: an example of how community and civilization can improve when women are handed the agency due them. Highly recommend!

As we elders, our daughters, and our granddaughters continue the fight for power, equality, and respect, we hold you in our hearts with love and gratitude. Rest in peace and power, Gloria Steinem. 🤍

It's kind of like The Stand, but if it made sense, and had a satisfying ending. I admit to preferring Joe Hill to his father, I just wish he was as prolific! (That said most of the S. King I read was as a young child. Should likely revisit.)

So, everyone knows that female action heroes have been around since way before the hunger games. But here's a big difference. After Aliens, they sold replicas of the reeboks that Ripley wore in the film. They were sold ONLY in men's sizes. I cannot begin to express how pissed off we teen gals were.

As summer comes to an end, I thought I would mention the fact that 40 years ago this summer, at 16, I saw this film in a packed theater. Loved is not a strong enough word. Then we moved to England, and saw it again on an base full of airmen. They were SO into it. Both peak cinema experiences.

Several decades later, I bought this ceramic tile made and signed by Lance Henriksen (major crush). It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't stupid expensive either, and I was working at the time. I actually cried when it arrived. My then housemate said she'd never seen a clearer example of Moe in action.

I'm generally a people pleaser, raised on the religion of politeness. I just left a really mean FB response and now I feel guilty. So, I have a conservative Christian cousin who once had an abortion. She posted a hateful diatribe against pro-choicers. I responded with:

Ads for "PocketFM" stories make Twilight novels look like like fucking Hamlet. They are the epitome of Women as Disposable Commodity Tales: the concept of females as breeder, mormon slaves, shaped as romance for young women. Fucking repellent in every way. #MisogynisticNastiness #alpha/beta/vomit.

Being fully aware that there are far more important issues currently, I am so fucking sick of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds and their bottomless cruelty. They need to go away. As I was reading Deadpool comics well before the films, at least Reynolds hasn't completely ruined the character for me.

While I like the idea of reaction videos as a distraction, most of my favourite films tend to be dialogue heavy and require attention. This means they're rarely covered and when they are, they are covered poorly. The consensus tends to be either "that was weird" or "I didn't understand it."

For better or worse, it's why I majored in film. When I got to college 3 years later, I'd already analyzed every frame. It was my first film paper. I got an A+ The professor said I had a "strong understanding of film." I've probably told you this before. (I have Repetitive Conversation Syndrome.)
