I think a lot could be said about how fandoms are very much structured to be consumerist without any critical analysis of capitalist production, and how this is the logical end result of that.

okay so I've never made a Really Big Room in gamemaker before. Studio 1's room editor actually really starts to chug trying to deal with SOOOO many tiles... so I'm finally switching over for a bit. LOL

I do actually love Castlevania 1. SO MUCH!!!!!!!! I think it's great and one of those examples of "in its time it was crazyyyyyyy". But like I just love that every move needs thought going into it. Later game enemy spam makes things feel a lot less fair (that one clocktower screen with the flea men)

Due to the month I’ve been thinking a lot about Castlevania recently. I beat 1 a couple of times! I will never ever beat 3

Weirdly I think I enjoyed the ReVamped fan game more because the gameplay was difficult/engaging. But it still devolved into this by the end and you don’t even use logic. “Fire whip destroys fire blocks” makes NO SENSE!!!!!!!

SotN has stunning visuals and incredible music meanwhile the gameplay has you finding an item that lets you bypass one single lock, behind it is another item that bypasses another single lock, etc. That or just “you cant jump high enough yet”

I didn’t enjoy the combat at first because I’m used to much more skill based combat systems but it clicked a bit when I realized it’s an RPG and it’s a lot more about using your arsenal of items and abilities. Even then higher HP enemies just became “can you spam the same 3 moves consistently?”

At least most of the time this means you easily mow down a boss, instead of that one insanely difficult boss at the top right of the inv. castle that just has you spamming attacks and heals for five minutes hoping this time your strat will work

I never understood the criticism of metroidvanias that “oh i forgot my car keys but to get the car keys i need to open the garage door but to do that…” etc until I played a classic metroidvania/search action

It's still very rough but this project is a big experiment for me in non-linear design. Really trying to touch on different possibilities for solving puzzles. The overworld is full of different one-way or two-way doors depending on what items you have

Like in this scenario: you have a "ladder block" which sends a *technically infinitely long* ladder out in whatever direction you punched it, but it stops as soon as it covers one full gap. Depending on what items you have, there are like 4 and a half different ways to cross this gap

canadian politicians when asked about if food is a human right: "heres the deal with food! its tasty, it's nutritious, and it's certainly been expensive lately. we all need it, and we at [insert party] care about getting it from the farm, to your belly."

Sertraline has sapped all my energy. Genuinely like feels like it's made me into a zombie. I'm only on, like, day 5 or 6 or something though and will be upping the dose soon, so hopefully it's just the adjustment period. Feels like my brain is being rewired.

It turns out crushing anxiety makes it hard to do things that give you energy and confidence. I rolled with it for a while because I thought it was normal but like it definitely isn't this bad for people

A Bucket Of Blood 1959 is good. A guy goes to any lengths possible to impress the local beatniks, and starts coating dead bodies in clay and the stuck up beatniks love it so much they all start literally applauding him 😭😭😭

Mario Eclipse felt great with this because instead of using the hover nozzle I pretty exclusively used the hover burst, because you can conserve your momentum but you need to use all the space available to you to build up some great speed beforehand, and you need to consider your angle/trajectory

Idk if its possible to make it feel Not Terrible but i daydream of a 3d platformer with no air control. Tons of control over your momentum but the decisionmaking lies entirely on the ground before a jump. Its kind of the Mario Eclipse experience.

I really would not have cared so much about this if it wasnt for the exact opposite to get so popular with platformers. So much emphasis on resetting your momentum midair to do another move

Castlevania is what made me think of this. At first you think a platformer with no air control is a terrible idea but then you have a game like Bloodlines where you can attack in either direction midair so it starts to feel kind of awesome

Every month i have about a day where i remove all air control from Manor Opus because i keep thinking itll change things for the better. It doesnt really do much because you can still do air control stuff (roll to change direction)

idk what compels a living breathing organism to go to a movie and say "oh hell naw" when a monster appears in a horror movie

makes me feel like a fuckin geezer to get mad at teens but jesus christ! some dumbass next to me screams and says "that's scary!" when a scary thing happens. What the fuck did you think the horror movie would be??? 😭😭😭😭😭 they all thought they were mystery science theatering

im not the kind of person to go "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" but i think if it wasnt for the fact that there were like 5 or 6 groups of friends all trying to do commentary i may have. but the polite people were outnumbered by the dumbasses
