@raginglevine.com Hi Eric! Could you clarify an interaction between mutate and daybound/nightbound? CR 730.2i says a merged permanent isn’t a double-faced permanent, even if it contains DFC components. However, daybound/nightbound check whether a permanent is “front face up” or “back face up.”

I can’t find a rule defining whether a merged permanent can be considered “front face up” or “back face up,” regardless of which component is on top. Is there a rule we’re missing, or does this need clarification? It affects a friend’s EDH deckbuilding. Thanks for your time!

I believe this is a bug, but there hasn’t been any official clarification yet. This interaction has caused considerable confusion among players, and some are making deck choices for upcoming major tournaments based on how it actually works.

@raginglevine.com Hi, I would to ask a question about MTR. MTR says “updates to this document are scheduled to be announced the Monday after each Prerelease.” But the latest version of official document I can find was updated on April. I cannot find a version including MSH or HOB in section 6.3.

Is WotC adjusting the frequency of MTR updates? If so, I would appreciate it if WotC could let me know what the new update schedule will be. I do some localization work on related documents, so knowing more clearly when the document is expected to be updated would help me plan my work better.

If you are aware of any typos in the Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, or Judging at Regular REL documents, let me know and I can send them in to get them fixed (I just sent in a list with a bunch of fixes, but maybe you saw something that should get fixed). #mtg

It seems 707.8a is the way Wotc hope the interaction to follow? And in that way, we can cast the back face. However, 707.8a talks about how we creates a token which is the copy of a double face card. But Shiko doesn't directly creates a token. It copies a card in the graveyard.

As far as I am concerned, I cannot. Shiko creates a copy of Gwen Stacy in my graveyard. 712.8a While a double-faced card is outside the game or in a zone other than the battlefield or stack, it has only the characteristics of its front face.

400.7. An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or relation to, its previous existence. This rule has the following exceptions. I can understand why madness can work well. It is because of 400.7e. But I am not sure how mayhem works with CR.

An effect is the result of a spell or ability. We all agree that it is not an ability, because a saga land enters with a counter witch Blood Moon on the battlefield. If it is an ability, this cannot happen. If we think 714.3a is an effect, and it is not an ability, it can only be result of a spell.

Compared with 306.5a. It says celarly that it is an ability which makes planeswalkers enter with conuters. So I can understand that Dounbling season doubles the counters planeswalkers enter with. But 714.3a doesn't really say like that.

609.1. An effect is something that happens in the game as a result of a spell or ability. When a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability resolves, it may create one or more one-shot or continuous effects. Static abilities may create one or more continuous effects.

You are up to date.
