I do not have too many interests! It’s just electronics, mechanical machines, telecom, braille, antiques, watchmaking, reading, reel to reel tapes, pagers, many/all sorts of pdas, politics, history, philosophy, 3d printing, restoring/repairing all things, hacking hardware/software/systems, cats…

we went for a drive yesterday through the Kaibab forest in northern arizona and got back at 1am because of rain and fog on muddy forest roads it was beautiful even if much of it we only saw while dark!

in the dark after this the gps in both the car and phone were flaky and the cell coverage was not there. its hard to see the roads in the dark and this tank "H P tank" had a road going right up to it and into it with an opening in the fence!

i got an electronic pole saw to remove dead branches from the trees and to remove the branches above the driveway so they dont break and fall on my shiny new car (and so the birds don't leave a shit storm). i took down so much dead wood but much of it was still hard to reach.

to be fair, it was very safe with the ladder and i would not have used one i could not safely jump or fall from. the tree i climbed had a 3+ way branching where i could stand with my back against the tree and could also hold on. i may seem like the risk taking type but i evaluate them in detail

i ended up using a 6" ladder for some of the stuff (do not use a ladder with a pole saw, its not safe). then for the branch i really needed to remove i climbed the tree and wedged myself in there good and used it from there. also don't do that, it's unsafe!!

this proves my risk assessment skills (and luck) are on point, as always. i am so sore now though beyond what i thought i would be. i was fine until sitting down for a few minutes and my arms are dying. i also have wood chips in my hair and everywhere else

code is based on rules and only the correct syntax works. this is the lowest bar for a test and it still creates some of the worst code i have seen. its worse than anyone i have mentored who was just learning to code and it cannot learn better. its a huge slopfest

If you dislike AI please stop saying AI can code now. Just because it can generate code that works for some loose definition of the word works doesn't mean it can code because coding is so much more than that. Please, I'm begging you, you do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to them

i got a new car a few weeks ago and it has remote start with an app over the internet. even if you unsubscribe the cat still sends some telemetry back to their servers. you can pull the fuse but the device has a battery backup and that might kill the handsfree mic

to fully disable you need to take apart the whole dash and behind the center console display is the box that does all this. disconnecting that box will disconnect two speakers and the handsfree mic. the handsfree mic also needs 5v which is not supplied on any pin

had a weed gummy and am getting a bath while watching videos on franklin mills. i grew up down the street from the mall and its so sad to see malls die

nothing i hate more than trying to help people after hours and having to argue against misinformation from some chatbot llm behind the scenes

i caught 4 of the 6 kittens and mom cat. They said they are very nice and will be able to be adopted out. i have to get the other two when i can

just waiting to ask my team (and the lawyers) about how they feel about the risks around AI given that they are all run my EA, rationalist, CNC, sex cult, etc folks. i mentioned this to my boss last week and he had no idea what i was talking about so this should be fun to explain

came out as trans to a coworker this morning who i didn't know too well. She told me thats awesome and loves seeing people live their authentic self! turns out she is really cool and i made a good choice

sometimes i check my feed and realize i have barely posted anything fun in the past few days/weeks and realize how tired i am. i don't even have anything to make that worse and i know this is nothing compared to what others have to deal with. i love you all and am proud of you! <3

seems i must convince my work that i deserve to jump over staff security engineer to principal security engineer. i have been the most senior security engineer since i started the team but have not had my position change as my responsibilities have grown over the past many years

from everything i have read the past week i am very much doing the work of a staff or principal security engineer and have been for a while

the first computer that was mine was this Acros 325se which my parents gave to me when they had to run windows 95 software. it is grayscale and runs windows 3.11. the first computer i used was some 286 desktop as there are videos from my 4th birthday playing a big bird game

first computer i remember using (there were a lot of them in the house) was a pretty-old-at-the-time SE/30 but the first one that was strictly /mine/ was a G3 ibook dual-usb.

i have told a handful of people at work that i am trans but so far only one person has figured out i'm trans on their own. if you know me from work then say hi but also please don't be weird and go and tell people i did not tell.

everyone i have told has been totally normal. i almost forget that i spent time figuring out how to enable pronouns in teams then set mine to Any/All. i did that because they use the pronouns for transcripts and i wanted to fuck with it since it's a text field
