thats it for #GTC. Area under the curve, compute pareto frontier, and free Denny’s —we will be there. Scaling laws have worked out quite nicely with object store and will continue to do so. Great meeting everyone! 🙂

inference availability/throughput has become the new stated goal of compute scaling — as opposed to what it used to be: emergent behavior from training bigger models Feels like an implicit confession that LLM scaling (even “post training” scaling) is NOT going to lead to ASI.

“I believe now is the right time to start preparing for AGI” The same warnings are now appearing with increasing frequency from smart outside observers of the AI industry who do not gain from hype, like Kevin Roose (below) & Ezra Klein I think ignoring the possibility they are right is a mistake

it's interesting that the gemini 2.0 series are the only top-tier LLMs trained and served entirely on non-nvidia (and specifically, in-house) hardware. Not to mention some of the longest context windows too.

"*reframing* the AI policy debate" what? For 6 months, there have existed open source models from China that outgun similar sized models from OpenAI on most benchmarks. Research in China builds on research from the US, and vice-versa. This is not some crisis. The only debate is on export controls.

washingtonpost.comAnalysis | DeepSeek is reframing the AI policy debateThe Chinese model’s stunning success is bolstering arguments that U.S. AI policy should spur innovation rather than slowing it down.

No. Algorithmic progress and compute scaling are not somehow mutually exclusive. With all due respect, HuggingFace as a commercial entity would cease to exist if there wasn't some level of that "Silicon Valley groupthink myopia".

nvidia staying a top 5 market cap company in the long term would be like if the store that sold the shovels during the Gold Rush was still one of the most valuable companies in SF. We’ll know AI’s utility and bounty is actually diffusing throughout society when that turns.

How does one square away these (paraphrased) claims by certain elements of industry: 1. “The US must stay ahead of China in the AI race. It’s critical for national security.” 2. “We must be allowed to sell GPUs to China. It’s critical for national security.” (Answer key below)

It must mean either: 1. China producing super awesome work in AI is not inherently a principal matter of national security (probably true), or 2. these particular elements of industry don’t actually care that much about national security (also probably true).
