OK, I'm gonna do this, but screw the "likes for answers" thing because I just wanna answer everything, and I'm not gonna be beholden to some silly restriction like that. :D :P That said, I'm not gonna answer everything at once! The thread'll grow at my own pace as I have time and inclination. :)

I feel like maybe I should have a profile header image, but I'm not really sure what... Maybe I should use a more recent photo of myself? The one I'm using for my profile avatar is a few years out of date now, but I don't want to change it because I value avatar consistency for recognizability.

Oooh, as someone who's started watching Babylon 5 for the first time this year, this could be quite interesting! Well, not until we finish it (my sister and I are in season 4 right now), but still!

A while ago I mentioned that Bruce Boxleitner and I were helping Warners with the launch of their Babylon 5 YouTube channel. As part of that, the first of three brand new half-hour-plus interviews/discussions between me and Bruce will go online on Monday. www.youtube.com/@Babylon5

Ugh, I can tell November is coming along, because the seasonal depression is coming on...November is, like, my worst month, for whatever reason.

I do find it odd when, in some kind of show, two people who are supposedly eating together do so at opposite ends of a really long table. You know the kind of table—the kind able to seat 24 people or something. And yet, just two are seated at the ends, as far apart as possible. So strange.

Why aren't there stores that sell sci-fi and fantasy fashion? Like, not costume stores, but ones with good quality, made-for-everyday-use clothing. I really feel like there's a huge diversity of clothing that's just going horrendously underexplored, and I think that's sad.

How the heck was the scrolling algorithm messed up here? Whenever I make a picture bigger, it resets the scroll positioning so that the top of the posts is at whatever scroll height I was at instead of staying at the top of scroll-bar's 0 position. Such a weird bug!

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I love the use of focal blur here. (I'm not sure what else to call it...focus maybe?) It adds a strong sense of depth. I also like the lighting, which hits a nice balance of clarity without being harsh.

Who on earth decided that the way to write a Rounding function was to have N.5 round to the nearest EVEN number?! 4.5 rounds down to 4, but 5.5 rounds up to 6?! In what universe would I want THAT as the functionality?!

While I don't personally like alcoholic drinks—I don't like alcohol's taste and have negative interest in being inebriated—there are a lot of vibes connected to alcohol that I really like, whether the brewing culture, fantasy taverns, groups coming together to celebrate...

There's something similar to the brewing culture with both coffee and tea, but I don't drink either of those, either. I'm glad mocktails are a thing, because the cocktail concept is too neat. Anyway, this is what I was thinking about as I was trying to fall asleep last night.

Somehow there's a good way to construct a joke about an air conditioner company making a lot of money off of spam emails about hot singles in their area, but I'm too tired to figure out how to construct it.

I had this idea while thinking to myself about how I miss spam emails appealing to libido instead of ones attempting to induce panic. It also seems all of the Nigerian princes have run out of money...

I am once again reminded that any good story needs to be experienced at least twice if I want to really grasp it. Like, the first time through is to get the general sense, but it's on subsequent times, where I know enough, that I can really appreciate and understand it!

So if you had enough money that you could basically build whatever kind of house you want, what're some features you'd like to have? For me, I'd love to have a bunch of different types of rooms, but one aesthetic I want for sure is at least one hallway with a sci-fi feel.

Like, imagine having a hallway *in your house* that feels like it's from a spaceship or space station. That sounds so rad to me!

Gaaaah! Single episodes of an anime are too shooooort! This message brought to you by "why can't they be 45–50 minutes instead of half that?"

Once again I am reminded that, if you sell a business to a megacorporation, you should expect that megacorporation to eventually kill that business. In related news, I didn't play a lot of the BioWare games, but the ones I did play were pretty cool.

For some reason, I've been getting an itch to play StarCraft: Brood War again. It's been a while, but I spent a lot of time playing it twenty+ years ago, and I really enjoyed modding it back then, too. So I suppose this is kind of a nostalgia thing, really.

Holy crap, that headline is brilliant! 🤣

I've been really struggling with figuring out how I want to use Blue Sky. I feel like we're constantly trained to focus on the negatives here, either by complaining about things directly or by advocating. While there is some value to either (pointing out problems, trying to convince of solutions)...

So I'm trying to figure out how to even approach social media in that sort of positive, "I like thing!" way. Because I fear the criticism, the dogpiling, and all of the awful things social media has become known for. But more than that, I feel like I don't see what I'm looking for modeled.

It's easier to do things you have examples of, and it's harder to figure things out when you have to do it yourself. Well, anyway, this has been enough of a ramble. All of it to say, to whoever might be reading, that what I want to do here isn't something I've quite figured out just yet.

Something else I've been thinking lately is that I feel like a lot of Christians have taken "speaking the truth in love" the wrong way, turning it into "speaking the truth is love," then calling their opinions truth. So they use "speaking the truth in love" as cover for being jerks, basically.

And it feels kinda similar. We all want shields, I guess, to protect ourselves from social criticism. I'm certainly no different. But does that result in the kind of Internet I long for, the one my rose-tinted glasses remembers? I don't think it does.

And so I'm trying to figure out how to approach Blue Sky with more of that old, positive attitude. I find myself thinking about something I read somewhere—or heard, whatever—that it's safer to be negative about things.

The observation was basically that being a hater is less risky than being a lover, and it's easy to create a hater bandwagon. But, like...

Both are fundamentally focused on the negatives of the world. And, like, those *are* worth trying to address. We can't make the world a better place without trying to address them in some way. But at the same time, I've found myself realizing something.

You see, I often think to myself, "I miss the old Internet." But what is it that I miss? And really, it's people coming together to focus on the positive. Shared creativity, shared fandom. Maybe we criticize something, but it's something we love, and analyzing it is part of the fun!

Something I find really interesting is how the otome-isekai sub-genre often has an emphasis on the protagonists trying to figure out how to navigate the plot of the otome game, but that same sort of formula doesn't really get applied to other types of games. That feels like an opportunity to me.

I understand the importance of market research to @magic.wizards.com, but how the heck am *I* supposed to know how/where the people I play with obtained their cards? Did they get them from buying a booster box? On the secondary market? From a prerelease kit? I certainly can't say for sure!

Well nevermind that survey... Realized I misunderstood a question that then had a follow-up a bunch of pages later, and I wasn't going to try to figure out how to fix it. Like, I *want* to tell Wizards what I think about their product, not try to sort through my process of acquiring it. 😖

The "Against" part of these questions are atrocious to answer and should probably be ignored, is what I'm saying.

A short and powerful article. We need to create a new culture of masculinity. The current one is atrocious.

I sat down and thought long and hard about whether to write this, and I decided Corin should sit this one out. We've both felt the backlash before, and she's taken more of it than I have. I keep asking myself what I would have done. ournaturistlife.com/2026/10/15/b...
