Just 1 year since the bloody El Fasher massacre, a UAE diplomat - Lana Nusseibeh - whose country enabled the RSF perpetrators, wants to be the next UN Secretary General. Truly Orwellian.

“It is as if a tsunami had hit the city,” said a resident who returned to Sudan’s El Fasher to find it destroyed and largely abandoned after the RSF's Oct. 2025 takeover. One year on, global actors should ensure it never happens again, take steps to protect civilians, and ensure accountability.

It is legal for people to seek asylum from persecution, conflict and atrocities. Anywhere. It's a core Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and central to the UN Refugee Convention. It's a core value of humanity.🌍

“Peace deal” = Ukranian surrender. Putin is a war criminal and Trump is not just an appeaser, he is now an accomplice. 🇺🇦

Killer robots are a horror that belongs in science fiction. But lethal autonomous weapons systems, operated by AI, are already being deployed. They should be banned under international law. (Frightening evidence from @KenRoth, here ⬇️) www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Why is it always the poets that religious extremists target? Such an honour to host a talk with the great Bengali poet Srijato from India. Such a kind, humble and courageous voice against intolerance and censorship.🇮🇳

$2000. That's how much your household has already spent this year on Trump's Middle East War. Congressional Republicans won’t lift a finger. It’s time to vote them out.

The Iran War is costing Americans $2,000 per household according to analysis by Moody's Analytics and Brown University.

Great session at the old Fremantle Prison on international justice with legendary lawyer Geoffrey Robertson, inspiring Palestinian colleague Samiha Olwan, and the indomitable Sophie McNeill. Glad to be part of this Totally Lit Festival in my hometown for the first time.

I had the opportunity to do a little work with Navi Pillay when I was at @GCR2P. She is kind, humble, and an unrelenting advocate for human rights and international justice. Great choice by the Nobel committee!

Despite diplomatic achievements, every UN Secretary General is judged on their ability to halt atrocities that shock the conscience of humanity. With Antonio Guterres, the verdict of history will be harsh. (My latest ⬇️) theconversation.com/after-a-deca...

President Trump’s threat to “annihilate” Iran is an open threat to commit genocide. These are the unconscionable and immoral rantings of a man whose cognitive decline makes him a threat to world peace.

The Taliban have turned Afghanistan into a prison for women and girls. Not allowed to study, to work, leave their home, or walk in the park without a male guardian. This gender apartheid is destroying the future of 22 million people.

The LRA were the stuff of nightmares. I had the honour of working with survivors of their atrocities in Uganda. I'll be speaking at the Perth screening of this amazing documentary film, "The Comfort Dogs of Uganda." Details⬇️🇺🇬

There are currently 117 million people in the world displaced by persecution, conflict and atrocities - a number that is soaked in tears. The deserve our compassion, not barbed wire and vilification.

There are people behind every crisis. Wherever they may come from, show your solidarity with all who are displaced.

This wasn’t an “immigration operation” it was a military occupation. It was an authoritarian flex of power and prejudice.

Between December, 2025, and February, 2026, more than 3,000 federal immigration agents were deployed in Minneapolis—detaining nearly 4,000 immigrants, and killing two U.S. citizens. Emily Witt reports on the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/e81B54

Spent today campaigning against Hanson’s One Nation in the Secret Harbour by-election, south of Perth. Having lived in the US under Trump, I don’t want to watch another cheap MAGA imitation divide communities, scapegoat immigrants, and undermine democracy.

Convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić is dead. He was criminally responsible for genocide at Srebrenica. Today I’m thinking of this mother and son I met in the graveyard on the 20th anniversary. The suffering Mladic inflicted should never be diminished or denied.🇧🇦
