Contract signed for my fantasy story, Random Encounters. Getting this far is a lesson in perseverance and self-belief. I really loved this story when I wrote it, but it was then rejected by 25 magazines. Very glad the story has now found a good home.

If I'm honest, I don't believe all 25 read the story properly. I mean, fair enough, maybe they simply didn't like the story. It subtly subverts fantasy tropes, but a skim read might only show you those tropes and not the subversion. The title is ironic, but maybe some magazines didn't realise? 🤷‍♀️

Signing the contract for my what-the-hell-is-going-on Fantasy story, Random Encounters, which will be appearing in Winter of Sci-Fi and Fantasy: Volume 2. There's a Kickstarter, with a share of the earnings going to the 12 authors - so, you know, there's that. www.kickstarter.com/projects/sci...

New to writing/publishing? My latest Writers Block article offers lessons learned by other #authors - just a little too late! Advice delivered via hindsight! www.philparkerauthor.co.uk/writers-block/ #writingcommunity #booktok #authorsky #writers #indieauthors #selfpublishing

philparkerauthor.co.ukWriters BlockEvery Saturday I post an article to prompt reactions from other authors. Some thoughts, suggestions and ideas that might spark inspiration or offer support to anyone who needs it.

My sci-fi short story Climbing Olympus has been reprinted by Fabula Argentea. It's a free read at: fabulaargentea.com/i... As they say, "This wonderfully resonant piece combines multiple emotions with the strength and courage of the human spirit." #scifi amwriting

Fenodyree ... Moddey Dhoo ... Mooinjer veggey - there are so many cool mythical creatures in the stories of the Isle of Man, the island I come from. I really should write some stories about them all... en.wikipedia.org/wik... #fantasy #amwriting

Just had a rejection email from an agent for a book that was published six months ago. They held onto the manuscript for two full years. Bless.

10,000 words into The Road to the Stars. Always feels like the moment when the story stops messing around pretending to be a short story or a novella and gets into its stride. #scifi #booksky #amwriting

I’m writing this handy piece of software for generating banner images from my book covers for social media posts, and that’s definitely not prevarication when I should be writing.

Not going to lie, there are days as a writer when you just feel like you’re bashing your head against a wall. A strong, well-made, utterly indifferent wall.

On Sunday, our esteemed membership will vote (in the hallowed manner) for the best 250 word story inspired by our picture of a magical portal. The winner will be hoisted onto shoulders, paraded and lauded. Celebration will ensue. Watch the skies! (Well, social media platforms). #writingcommunity

Sci/fi WIP The Road to the Stars (The Möbius Sequence part ∞) reaches 5000 words! So maybe only 100,000 to go. I can do that. Most of the words will be “and” and “the” and stuff, right? #scifi

So, the exciting novel news! I sent off the prequel to The Twisted Road (The Infinite Road) to @elsewhen.press - and they like it and want to publish it. Woo! We've just signed contracts, so at some point, The Möbius Sequence part 0 will be appearing. #scifi #sciencefiction

I was lucky enough to see the solar eclipse the other day. Here’s one of the photos I took, showing the solar corona, and (the red dot at nine o’clock), a solar prominence. It was a completely awe-inspiring experience. For a moment, I forgot everything and just thought, THERE’S A HOLE IN THE SKY!

My 28th short story submission to one of the big fantasy magazines, my 28th rejection. I can’t decide if I’m being admirably persistent or I’m just wasting my time with them.

Ah, the return of Only Connect. The world suddenly makes a little more sense.

Have you noticed the weather is changing at last? It’s almost as though an icy wind is blowing across the country. Only Connect returns, tonight at 8 pm on BBC Two.

Writing an Office of the Witchfinder General short story revolving around the rare books store at the British Library - while sitting in the Rare Books Reading Room of the British Library. It’s a lovely place. I like it here.

"No day without a line" was the mantra of James McNeill Whistler. He was talking about art, but it’s excellent advice for the writer, too.

Today is my 10th anniversary of starting Parkrun. I can’t think of a single thing I’ve done that has been of more benefit to my physical and mental health. Wish I was quicker though.

Having completed a draft of The Infinite Road in my #scifi Möbius Sequence, I figured I’d take the summer off before starting work on the third and final volume. So, yep, I started writing it yesterday.

In just 48 hours, we'll be bringing all this indie awesomeness to #Shrewsbury. We can't wait to see you there! We'll be going a bit quieter over the next 48 hours as we make final preparations. It's been a long time coming...but SPOTLIGHT INDIE LIVE IS ALMOST HERE!

Phew, that's the prequel to The Twisted Road - The Infinite Road - completed* and sent off to my publisher. I hope they like it; I'm delighted with how it turned out. The Möbius Sequence #scifi * until, you know, edits
