Strap in everyone for one of our best FTE/500YD eps (imho) as we discuss one of the greatest stories of all time which through repeats and a certain LP version defined the series for a generation. Coincidence? I think not!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, Nathan, Peter, Simon and Corey are sent back in time on a mission to prevent Doctor Who fandom from concluding that the brilliance of Genesis of the Daleks is somehow not the result of the brilliance of Terry Nation. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s5/e9

This week we hit Death to the Daleks. It’s amazing what you can do bombs in Doctor Who. Listen below! (And listen to the VERY END!)

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

It's Who at its most typical: a stranded space expedition is so beset by natives and Daleks that it can fill 4 episodes with daring sacrifices and human escapes until the generically mandatory explosion comes along to set everything to rights. #DoctorWho #DeathToTheDaleks 500yeardiary.com/s5/e8/

Our journey through Terry Nation’s Doctor Who oeuvre continues with Planet of the Daleks. I have mixed views of this story. Much to recommend but also doesn’t meet the potential it has. Hear the longer version below!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, Terry Nation tries to reclaim the glory days when Dalek stories took place on a more modest scale — full of incident and action sequences, but shot in a studio that had once hosted episodes of Morecambe and Wise. #DoctorWho #PlanetOfTheDaleks 500yeardiary.com/s5/e7

I thoroughly endorse the views expressed in this episode, and I encourage you to listen to the very VERY end. Yes, even after the tag.

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, @adamrichard.com.au and @scribblesscript.bsky.social join us for a picaresque and shoddily made romp through time and space, with Daleks, followed by a devastating emotional farewell. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s5/e4/

I don’t feel it’s an overstatement to say none of us would have ever heard of Dr Who were it not for this incredible story which created the template so soon in the run. Without it, the program would likely have been a short lived footnote of 1960s British television. Listen to our take below!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

Doctor Who has only barely got started when the writer of Episode 5 shows up and decides to take the show in a whole different direction. That writer was Terry Nation, and that episode, or possibly the one after that, will change the world forever. #DoctorWho #TheDaleks 500yeardiary.com/s5/e1/

Still floating on air from spending an hour with Suzy Eddie Izzard on #InConversation. We spoke about her extraordinary one-person Hamlet, stand-up, acting, politics, coming out as trans, and a career built on persistence, reinvention and wit. This is one to listen to! Links below.

A story which is key in my development as a totally obsessive fanboy… and it shows in our discussion! It made me the man I am today!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

Well, our show has just turned twenty, and so it's time for everyone alive and available to celebrate by reporting to the BBC Television Centre. But only one man can give them all exactly the right things to say and do — Terrance Dicks. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s3/e5

Love this story and loved discussing it. So much class, so little time!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, on a planet where evil carnivorous overlords oppress and prey on a helpless populace, we decide to watch and discuss State of Decay. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s3/e4/

There was a lot to say about Horror of Fang Rock as there is just so much to love about it. We also talk about how Terrence Dicks’s Target novelizations were so important to our reading and development. And so great having @melvinpena.bsky.social on this one!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

Terrance's planned vampire story has been unexpectedly cancelled, and he has only a few weeks to come up with a replacement. Fortunately, he's brilliant. #DoctorWho #HorrorOfFangRock 500yeardiary.com/s3/e3

Excited to have guested on the fabulous @aotas.bsky.social to chat about this story which I’ve always loved. Such a shame I’m a quiz ignoramus…! 😬

“Yes Jamie, it IS a big one!” We’re joined by the delightful @simonmoore.bsky.social from @flightthroughentirety.com as we tackle the era defining epic, The War Games. #DoctorWho open.spotify.com/episode/3Tl9...

Our final 500 Yr Diary for this season was a surprising addition - as I suspect was the fact The Well ended up being a return to Midnight. Our musings below. Looking forward to a return later in the year…

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

The surprising return of a decades-old monster leads not only to the urgent revision of a long-dormant TARDIS Wikia page, but also to an unexpected addition to the current season of 500 Year Diary. So join us for one more visit to Midnight — it’s The Well. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s2/e11/

To my mind, #doctorwho took a massive step backwards for S23. Our look at Mindwarp below, where I also wax lyrical about the brilliance of Sil’s first outing, too. There’s a lot crammed into this one!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, the 1980s brings back its most iconic original villain (possibly) to face off against the Sixth Doctor for the second time. But is the reunion a success? @kateorman.bsky.social joins us to talk about Sil and Mindwarp. #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com/s2/e7

A story whose promise is let down by a succession of poor choices in its realisation and execution, is where I ended up landing in this, our take on the Season 21 opener Warriors of the Deep. Commence ignition Scibus!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, the Earth’s original inhabitants wake up from hibernation after about a decade, put on their best fibreglass vests and samurai outfits, and invade an undersea base at 0.5× speed. The Silurians and Sea Devils are back — but why? #DoctorWho 500yeardiary.com

Getting into the nitty gritty with this story which has much to commend it but doesn’t quite live up to its potential

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, the people of the planet Manussa are about to discover that all their ancient myths are true, and that their own thirst and dissatisfaction are rearing up to strike them in rubbery serpentine form. @kateorman.bsky.social joins us. #DoctorWho #Snakedance 500yeardiary.com/s2/e5

Our warmish take below on the latest #doctorwho installment. Light hearted and light weight but the brilliant Freddie Fox does his best to add some gravitas (sorry, mavitas).

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This week, the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest is disrupted by a violent act of terrorism and then reinstated by an act of camp fabulosity, complete with comedy montage and everything. And then, to top it off, the [redacted] shows up. #DoctorWho thesecondgreatandbountifulhumanempire.com/18/

In which we discuss an episode where the sum is less than its fabulous parts. Sand. And a romantic dinner for two.

Maximum Power: A Blake’s 7 Podcast@maximumpowerpodcast.com

It's Sand! Which, like Tarrant this week, gets everywhere, as he discovers that even after fixing the food machine for her, Servalan will still have him for breakfast. #Blakes7 maximumpowerpodcast.com/56

Lovely to catch up with Amy Manford for this week’s In Conversation. A successful soprano, actress AND producer (and ex-gymnast and pole vaulter! 😱), she has loads of talent plus ‘get up and go’ - and the drive to make sure the fireworks happen no matter what! 🎧 bit.ly/InCon175s

3. It’s a rapid blur of ‘stuff happening’ with little or no time to actually enjoy what’s going on, or become interested in the characters and properly engaged in the plot line. Without the space to allow your mind to wander into the ‘what if’s’, the magic of the show gets lost…

4. It assumes rapid stimulation creates engagement. But for me it just means I don’t care as much about what’s happening on screen. A bit more breathing space and a lot less music would be a great way to improve these edits.

2. There is a place for these shorter, punchier edits, and the colourisation is a delight to see, but the obsession with trying to ‘modernize’ it needs to be dialed back. But above all they make me realise why a chunk of the modern series is lost on me.

A discussion about the underrated episode Traitor where I think we all sort of agree it’s underrated. There are some wonderful moment, not to mention large shoulder epaulettes and plenty of black feathers.

This week, we're all eager to find out about this remarkable new police commissioner everyone's talking about on Helotrix. Is it possible that they're in some way familiar? #Blakes7 #Traitor maximumpowerpodcast.com/50

Such a pleasure and honour to be part of this team. Here are our thoughts on the Moffat and Capaldi eras. To paraphrase the ABC continuity announcers of yore: ‘that’s the final episode of FTE for the time being… but they’ll be back!’

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

The latest leg of our flight through entirety comes to a gentle landing this week, but before we all head off to collect our luggage, all seven of us take the opportunity to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat in one last retrospective. #DoctorWho flightthroughentirety.com/297

My lukewarm reaction to a less than lukewarm episode, this year’s Christmas special - some great ideas and good moments but overall for me it just doesn’t come together. My full diatribe on the subject is below…

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

Steven Moffat is back for his ninth Christmas Special, with a message of either hope or simple nuclear fusion. Also back are his favourite tropes, along with just a soupçon of righteous anger. Merry Christmas, everyone. #DoctorWho thesecondgreatandbountifulhumanempire.com/12

The flight through entirety is about to go into a temporary stasis, but before it does here’s our take on Twice Upon a Time… which was much better than I recalled it being!

Flight Through Entirety@flightthroughentirety.com

This Christmas, we discover that the real battlefield was the friends we made along the way. Or something. Time to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi in Twice upon a Time. #DoctorWho flightthroughentirety.com/296

We’re back for the final series of Blake’s 7. Rescue is a great episode, and Geoffrey Burridge gives a stellar performance as Dorian. Listen to our musings below!

It's 21 December, Gauda Prime Day, and what better time to start our journey through Series D of Blake's 7! We’re back with the first episode of Maximum Power for a whole new decade (of the third century of the second calendar). It’s Rescue! maximumpowerpodcast.com/48/
