“Simon's wonderful book taught me a lot about The Cure, and because I made 37 of their music videos, I know an awful lot already!” - Tim Pope (director). The perfect Christmas gift for the Goth or Curehead in your life, CUREPEDIA is now fully updated in a paperback second edition. geni.us/Curepedia

Thoughts which occur when your life involves frequent exposure to nursery rhymes. If I was suffering from severe head trauma, I don’t think I’d be counting on all the king’s horses to administer first aid.

Joy Division/New Order Special also nearly 50LD 0UT, and I'm now bracing myself for people getting them mixed up and turning up on 31 Oct expecting to hear album tracks off Unknown Pleasures and finding themselves in a room full of werewolves doing The Time Warp.

Tickets for the @spellboundclub.bsky.social Hallowe'en Party are 50LD 0UT (thank you!). If you missed out, sign up to the Waiting List via the Komedia Brighton Box Office www.komedia.co.uk/shows/spellbound, and/or come try us on the night (when there's likely to be limited capacity for walk-ups).

I’m about 10 seasons into Taskmaster, and I have a question. Why is there a running joke that Greg Davies is fat? He just looks like a normally-proportioned man of his age.

Haha! Yep, I remember being pretty pleased with that one.

I've been way into Rocky Horror recently. Just read @simonprice.bsky.social 's great @thequietus.com piece on it and stopped for a full minute to appreciate the line "The whole country, after a jump to the Left, was taking a step to the Right." thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

Aberfan was a thing you were told about, growing up in Wales in the Seventies, but with no real context. The older you get, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the angrier you get. Working class lives treated as expendable. Same as Senghenydd. No Health & Safety for the poor. R.I.P. the 144.

It sounds like hype or exaggeration or a lie when people say this, but I'm watching the tickets ebb away before my eyes. There were 22 when I decided to write this, 21 when I slapped 'Almost Sold Out' on the artwork, and now there are just 20. These will definitely go in the next 24/48 hours.

The @spellboundclub.bsky.social Hallowe'en Party is ALMOST SOLD OUT! We're in the 415 capacity Main Room, and only 20 tickets are left at the time of writing. These will go in the next 24/48 hours. Someone always gets upset for missing out, so this is fair warning! www.komedia.co.uk/shows/spellbound

Recently remembered I used to go to a media luvvies meet-up circa Y2K called SWS (Social, Welsh & Sexy). Sian Lloyd was always there. When I told my friends this the other week, they couldn't stop laughing. Not sure why I stopped. Possibly thrown out for not being sexy. (I'm definitely not social.)

Overthinking Motown Latest… “Come See About Me” by The Supremes is an odd title, isn’t it? Not “Come See Me”, but “Come See ABOUT Me”. That’s not a common phrase that I’m familiar with.

Wasn't sure how I was gonna feel about Martin McAloon's one man and his guitar(s) Prefab Sprout show. Well, I bloody LOVED it. Fully delivers the emotional intelligence and wit of his brother's lyrics, never shirks a complex jazz chord, and is funny and very likeable. Would go again in a heartbeat.

I think the best piece of advice I could give anyone is this. If you're in the kitchen, and you're about to stand up straight from a crouching position (after loading the washer, say, or rooting around in the fridge), first check that the doors of the cupboards directly above your head are shut.

B&H people! Quick reminder that Stella Goes To Mars (French-influenced 'lunar lounge' band feat Matthieu Hartley, ex-Cure, and singer Jane Parker) launch their new EP with two afternoon sets at the Brunswick in Hove from 2.30pm-5.30pm this Sunday, and I'm DJing between sets and after. And it's FREE!

WHAT a film that is, by the way. A pioneering landmark in the comedy-horror crossover genre. If you haven't seen it, see it, seriously. (Meanwhile, tickets for this year's party are well over three quarters gone, so get yours from the Komedia Brighton box office before it's too late!)

Every year, @spellboundclub.bsky.social's Hallowe'en Party artwork pays tribute to classic horror 1980-1990. Beetlejuice, Lost Boys, Nightmare On Elm St, Shining, Edward Scissorhands, Child's Play, Hellraiser, Ghostbusters, Elvira... and this time, John Landis' An American Werewolf In London (1981).

Tickets for this one are already more than half gone, which is absolutely wild when we're this far out, so it's gonna be a busy one.

Looking further ahead: the @spellboundclub.bsky.social JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER SPECIAL at Komedia Brighton on SAT 21 NOV! Every third song a JD/NO classic, plus carefully-chosen Alt-80s sounds and one FAC of a slideshow. Tickets www.komedia.co.uk/shows/spellb... Info www.facebook.com/events/17003...

It’s weirdly distracting when a jobbing actor (as opposed to a celebrity) is in TV adverts for two different companies running at the same time. One of the Tesco Whoosh couriers (“Because I delivered it there”) is also in a Royal London ad as a fast food server, sat in a boardroom.

Trumpton (ITV player) depicts an ordered society, now lost. Stratified yes, but not too much. Everyone from mayor to handyman doing OK, looked out for. An order against which I rebelled when young of course. But I want THAT to be the order against which we rebel. Not today’s self-interest hellscape.

Basically this is the one where you're gonna hear party-friendly bangers by The Cure, Siouxsie, The Cramps, Billy Idol, Dead Or Alive, Kate Bush, Soft Cell, The Cult, Depeche Mode etc but also “The Monster Mash”, “Thriller”, “The Time Warp”, “Ghostbusters” and all other Hallowe'en party essentials.

Listening to Radio 1 in the car this morning, heard the new single by Jason Statham. "Gone Too Far (feat. Debbie)", it was called. Bloody Hell, I thought, The Stath is branching out! Chase & Status. Not Jason Statham. CHASE & STATUS. I need to get into the ear microsuction scene ASAP.

I've tried to be honest. Chronological order of release. Other albums gave me great joy but I don't feel like they "made" me. And other, later albums (or earlier, but I got into them later) would rank in an all-time list, but my cut-off point here is the age of 16. After that, I was already "made".

B&H people! Stella Goes To Mars - the French-influenced 'luna lounge' band formed by Matthieu Hartley (ex-The Cure) and singer Jane Parker - launch their new EP with two afternoon sets at the Brunswick in Hove from 2.30pm-5.30pm on Sun 18 Oct, and I'm DJing between sets (Spellboundy stuff and more).

Who knew that all the Greenham Common women needed to do was piss about with a white van in some nearby woods, call the cops on themselves and claim Iran sent them?

Henrik Ibsen! Morten Harket! Edvard Munch! Jo Nesbo! Edvard Grieg! Jan Garbarek! Jens Stoltenberg! Anni-Frid Lyngstad! Varg Vikernes! Roald Amundsen! Thor Heyerdahl! Vidkun Quisling! Harald Hardrada! Liv Ullmann! Royksopp! Can you hear me, Royksopp? YOUR BOYS TOOK ONE HELL OF A BEATING! #CYMNOR

Things which were the norm once but seem completely mad now... I'm old enough to remember when your first name or forename was commonly termed your 'Christian name'. When you stop and think about it, that feels utterly insane. 'Christian name'! Imagine asking someone "What's your Christian name?"

Do you ever find yourself doing a thing that's absurdly stereotypically YOU, and it crosses your mind that "I bet this is exactly how people imagine I spend my time"? Anyway, I've spent the last few days listening to Siouxsie And The Banshees B-sides.

That photo of Delcy Rodriguez with Donald Trump is revolting. I'm sure the two finger gesture doesn't mean in Venezuela what it does in the UK, but it might as well do, as she's flicking the Vs to her own public and to any idea of Latin American self-determination. What a disgusting sell-out she is.

There’s an episode of Shaun The Sheep in which the farmer, in fancy dress as a sheep, gets snogged by an actual sheep in red stilettos. The following morning it’s heavily implied that either they’ve had sex or the farmer fears they have. All I can say is, children’s TV has changed since Andy Pandy.

You know those Little People, Big Dreams children's books that tell simplified versions of a famous person's biography in order to inspire young minds? I had a look on eBay to see what's going cheap, and four of the six cheapest are Captain Tom Moore.

I was at the bus stop last night, waiting for the 49 to East Moulsecoomb, and suddenly a convoy of 30 to 40 rollerbladers, mostly with purple lit-up wheels, came whooshing past in the bus lane while blasting out "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters. Brighton's gonna Brighton.
