A handful of registered Democrats vying for seats in local government are backed by donors who have also supported Republicans and Portland conservatives. That’s according to state data collected and presented in a new web project called Who’s Buying PDX.

I’m very critical of Tina Kotek and people need to vote for her anyway. There’s no ranked choice in this race. The governor has the power to call in the national guard, or affect voting. That alone is too important. Christine Drazan is too dangerous. Hold your nose and do it.

Napoleon said his favorite generals were the lucky ones. Well, books can be lucky and unlucky too, and you never know which you're working on. This one, launching in paperback tomorrow, has been lucky. Which caught me by (happy) surprise. In the words of Ed Grimley, "You never can always know!"

I almost never care about spoilers, and ask to have most movies spoiled for me, but not knowing much about You Can See Everything, and especially where it goes in its second half, feels essential to its success

This post is unavailable.

For the Mercury, I reviewed the excellent YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING. (Full disclosure, I originally titled the review “You Can See Every Pore” and my editor suggested something different, which I’m glad she did, but in the spirit of the film, I’m just practicing radical transparency here.)

Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's You Can See Everything is basically a chamber drama chronicling the making of You Can See Everything, writes Mercury critic Dom Sinacola.

Do This, Do That gets Halloweeny with a horror-fueled drive-in, candy and wine pairings, Ken Russell's The Devils, and a miniature show with exhibits like “Calico Critter Murder Mystery.” Plus, the Portland Zine Symposium is back, and costumed paddlers navigate pumpkins at an unmissable regatta.

Skydance now owns Nick, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Comedy Central, and MTV, effectively ending US TV animation as we know it. Countless jobs will be lost, and fewer new shows will be created. An apocalyptic scenario for cartoons, yet it's maybe the 5th-worst thing about the Paramount-WB merger!

The History of Concrete is very worth watching in cinemas this weekend, but the movie I really want to point out here is MacBeth 3000, which is available on YouTube, and is genuinely really funny and a lot of fun. Also made by teenagers. Thanks to @declouxj.bsky.social for yet another stellar rec

It’s my birthday today. I turn 43. Like most people, I mull on this day everything I have accomplished and, more importantly, everything I haven’t. So in that light, all I ask on this day is for everyone to subscribe to my blog, which is about both Werner Herzog and my 43 years of cowardice

Saw Chat Pile last night, and the whole of their stage banter was about movies filmed in and/or taking place in Oregon, including: - Brainsmasher - Night Moves - Prefontaine - My Own Private Idaho and Drugstore Cowboy - Permanent Record Anyway, incredible show.

For all the love our mayor Keith Wilson showers on cops, I can attest to the fact that he was at an early screening of BAD BOYS: RIDE OR DIE to talk to people before the show and he DID NOT stay for the movie.

“Inhabited by Robert Pattinson, Hansen is possessed,” writes Mercury critic Dom Sinacola. “Primetime strikes a uniquely audacious tone. Both heightened and haughty, somber and zany, it’s a film about terrible ends—and the means to those terrible ends—that is also absolutely thrilling entertainment.”

Inhabited by Robert Pattinson, Chris Hansen is possessed. It’s nothing and everything like Hansen, as if Pattinson’s playing to a memory of watching Hansen on a small cathode ray tube TV. @sinacolad.bsky.social is on 🔥
