Voted early today and drove my mother to turn her by-mail ballot in because we can't even trust the post office this year. Suck it GOP and all of the walls you have tried to put in the way of democracy.

From Elias Taylor’s blog: “software engineers have spent the past 40 years writing vulnerable, dogshit software. LLMs are easily above the bar needed to break into said software.” Be angry at the dogshit software we’ve been sold for the past 40 years and accelerated profits of shortened testing.

AI isn’t finding bugs or doing testing that we couldn’t have done. It just wasn’t as profitable for software companies to have done the full testing. Lately software has been shipped to us known to be broken and patched later. The tool now exists to do the proper testing faster. That’s all.

Contrary to JD Vance’s opinion on Vivek’s shitty ad: character matters. No character, no value. That’s held true my entire career. I look for honesty and integrity from everyone professionally first. I demand even more of government leadership. Vivek has no character. Neither does JD.

In a tacit, yet firm, rebuke of Trump's passion for the key executive agenda of renaming the world's waterways, our congress is instead focused on passing nonbinding resolutions condemning democratic socialist policies, such as medicare or social security.

One of the dumbest things about the box cutter reflecting pool narrative is that if you cause it to peel up by making a few slits in it, all it would prove is that the liner never bonded to a fucking thing and therefore wasn’t going to last anyways. It’s shitty work or… shitty work.

The only thing appropriate about a 250$ bill with Trump's face on it is that being the highest denomination and therefore the physically lightest way to move large amounts of cash... it would instantly replace the 100$ bill as the favored currency to use in criminal activities.

Trump wants to do what he always does: say one thing, while he does another. In Iran he has a counter party that will always call his bullshit because they have no interest in him in any fashion. I don’t think he knows what the fuck to do with this type of adversary.

Happy Easter. May those of you with kids spoil them with jelly bean, chocolate and candy memories that last a lifetime. May all of us embrace our friends & families over one more good meal. Just counter balancing a little for the train wreck post from the orange clown.

A big spike of oil price induced inflation is working its way through the manufacturing supply chain. Price hikes of 5-10% in the span of a month here in the middle where I work. Will arrive at the consumer level for home construction and renovation by May/June.

On top of the slowdown in grantmaking I wrote about last week - this is another deeply worrisome trend for scientists, physicians, patients, families, and basically anyone who wants new treatments and new tools to promote health. 🆘🧪🥼 open.substack.com/pub/elizabet...

I don't really care that he wore a ballcap. I care that he attacked another country, again, and is killing both foreign and domestic people with no plan to stop. I care that his cheerleaders in right wing media continue to smile about it and that congress continues to shirk its responsibility.

I was talking about the mountain visibility in California when I lived there in the 1990s? Today I ran into this video short demonstrating the effect. A still from in front of the Burger King in Burbank, California in 1985, versus that same spot in 2026. Look how many more details you can see!

My first year at USC in 1995 I didn’t know you could see mountains from downtown LA. Four years later when I graduated you could see the hazy mountains edges every day. Revisiting in 2019 I was stunned at how how crystal clear the views had become. Pollution controls work, I’ve seen it real time.

The entire PURPOSE of the US constitution is to distribute power to as many people as possible: three branches of the federal government, voting, state powers, local governments... all of it... was designed to avoid giving power to one person. Continued subservience by the GOP to Trump is treason.

My father passed away 23 years ago today at age 51. I'm less than 3 years younger than he ever lived in total... and I'm coming up on having lived more than half my life without him around. It's a heavy day for me mentally.

History will look back on this era to discuss the descent of our government into moral depravity. Somewhere in a future textbook will be a photo of the flattened east wing and the Major Events timeline of the whitehouse .gov website that starts in defense but ends up in a very different place.

I mean my first thought at seeing the 2028 Trump hats in the oval office this week were that the correct move would have been to reach for a drink, nab the hat, and then to sit on it when you settled back into your seat. Just to clear the sight line and all.
