If Canavan fails in his run for the lower house, at least he can fall back on his vast experience as a coal miner. (Or as an actor playing coal miners.) (Or as a traffic cone.) #insiders #auspol #hivis

Cannot fault Savva’s US midterm prediction! 😆 If Trump maintains control of the Congress he will be even more dangerous and erratic, however if he loses control of the Congress, he will be even more dangerous and erratic. Safe bet! #insiders

Backgrounding journos is common practice in politics and had no part to play in the Haines tragedy. Hypocrisy is the universal yardstick we should focus on, not this sensationalism, which distracts from the real concern - violent rhetoric and public attempts to otherise and dehumanise. #insiders

I agree with respectful debate but I reserve the right to mock the false narratives and unsupported claims of any politician or person. Especially when the intent of that rhetoric is to vilify and otherise. Ridicule is an act of non-violent resistance. #insiders #onemillionunderwatervolcanoes

A little less “belief” and a little more education in economics might be a better way for Angus to go. Keep your ideology in your church and sports team choices, and let science and tested hypotheses inform economic choices. #nowarbutclasswar #insiders #yeahscience #auspol #auseconomics

Increasing rates actively tightens the labour market by pushing more workers into doing more hours at the expense of productivity, and the cycle perpetuates. External factors need domestic spending to manage. The alternative is we suffer. Not all spending is smart, but smart is needed. #insiders

Look I’m no expert but I do know the IMF has very standardised ways of defining spending, and it is not nuanced at all. Not all spending is inflationary, and I don’t expect dummies to get that but the IMF should, and it doesn’t help when other dummies (waves at #insiders) parrot the bullshit.

“Matt has got the problem the wrong way around “ Karen Middleton on toxic male students. Could be the motto for Matt Canavan’ entire political career. 😒 #insiders

Getting kids off the algo is one thing. Getting the older generations off it is the other. Both are peddling disinformation to corral users into neat little consumption units. Smash disinfo an the algo loses its power. #insiders #auspol #algoholicsanonymous

“Their money. Their money. Their money.” I remember the mask slipping when Costello and other members of the coalition which Barnaby was a member of, bleating out that Australians must ensure that there is continuing effort to encourage self-funding of retirement. Their money. #insiders #auspol

But clearly, “their money” is an excuse so that pension budgets can be slashed, and pension accessibility tightening would surely follow. Australia could end up being a generation of elderly poor living in their “retirement asset” they can sell to survive. Their money. Their problem. #insiders

I checked some numbers quickly (not confirmed but very rough estimates). Toilet flushing is about a 50th of the water usage of agriculture. 🚽 🌾 #insiders #auspol #onemillionunderwatervolcanoes #shitmaths

On the 25th #insiders birthday, for #TalkingPictures, Petty is the talent I miss the most; that structured chaos that drew my eye before my mind was able to comprehend the message. Glorious. Petty’s written and directed documentary, Global Haywire should be on the curriculum. Seek it out.

I’ve had to start tricking One Notion supporters (and others, let’s be honest) into learning about economic realities with cat videos, FFS. #insiders #auspol #economics #debttoGDP #trilliondollardebtcrisis #cats www.instagram.com/reel/DaJoznz...

How about if instead of a rescue package for free-to-air broadcasters loss of earnings from banning gambling advertising, we start sending them the bill for the predictable consequences of pushing a harmful product? #insiders #auspol

Glad to hear Speers is pushing back on Tehan’s claims about costs of maintaining coal. Apparently, investment in fossils are yay but investment in renewables are boo. Technology agnostic is yay but Tehan is completely ideological about markets. No room for people or planet. #insiders #auspol

It feels like our MSM usual suspects and especially the ABC since the budget have sought to air every little niche investor class gripe about losing their tax fudge. Contrast this with NDIS recipients losing funding. Maybe a day or two of coverage? Shows you how the privileged rule. #insiders #CGT

The one thing I reckon Labor need to address is the role Labor has played in supporting and promoting the status quo. That is the missing lyric in the song sheet of reform that allows the populists to divide the working class. We notice the gap in the chorus. #insiders #auspol

Hey, startups, just quietly. Entrepreneurs in Australia have a shit tonne of welfare they can fall back on that they don’t have in the US. They can still go to hospital if they go broke, for starters, thanks to taxes. You will be taxed if your idea makes heaps of money. Good. #insiders #auspol

You know… if you’re selling your house and prices have dropped 5%, you can buy another one for 5% less. It’s only affecting people who use housing as an investment, not as a personal home. That’s. The fuck. King point. #insiders #auspol

So funny flicking between Bluesky, where the main debate on my feed is "is it unfair to call Keir Starmer the worst prime minister ever?" and X, where discussion of the day is whether liberals should accept there are some good arguments for not letting women vote
