Introducing my open source Skill Trees project! Have you ever wanted to learn a new skill in a gamified way? I've created a range of printable templates where you can color in the boxes of anything you've already done, visualise your progress and find your skill gaps. 50+ skills now covered!

My new book, Skill Seeker: Young Maker Edition is now available! Looking for holiday activities to learn maker skills? This book is the perfect Christmas gift for young learners, and they can show off their progression with video game inspired dashboards, skill trees and activities.

Huge thanks to the talented folks who contributed to the Skill Trees Project this month, with topics including Speedcubing, Single Board Computing (Raspberry Pi), Microcontroller (STM32, Facial Expressions and Tone of Voice Skill Trees.

These are templates that act like a video game skill tree, but for real life skills. Just colour in the boxes to show your progress, identify skill gaps and get inspired to learn new things. We're now up to 70 skill areas covered!! Check out the project here: github.com/sjpiper145/M...

It's been a huge effort, but my new kids book, Skill Seeker Young Maker Edition is coming out soon - Perfect for holiday activities! I'm so happy with how it's turned out and excited for kids to enjoy these. Available in mid November ready for Christmas.

Disappointed this isn't real yet? You might love my Skill Seeker book - an off screen way of tracking these maker skills by colouring in the boxes, finding your scores and visualising them in a video game dashboard just like this one. Available through most major stockists!

Excited to finally have licences available for software developers to use the Skill Trees Project for digital skill tracking. Thanks for being one of my first sponsors @youyoubilly.bsky.social !!

Proud to sponsor Steph Piper's #MakerSkillTree project! @sjpiper145.bsky.social Educational, inspiring & empowering, reviewed by experts in their fields, turning learning into a visual, gamified journey. Perfect for makers, educators, and curious minds everywhere! github.com/sjpiper145/M...

Today I'm reflecting on my goals with my Skill Seeker Book. By coloring in the boxes of everything I've already done in these skill trees, I can track my skill levels. It's made me realise that I want to diversify my projects away from 3D printing and into more laser cutting and CNC projects.

I've created a new soldering kit design for library makerspace students to get inducted on the electronics bench. Needed a larger design to avoid coin cell batteries. A few things to fix but really happy with how this one turned out!

How it started and how it's going: Cardboard geodesic dome build! Super excited to have started to assemble it this week. It's both cardboard and corflute construction and will be 3.5m across and 2.2m tall. #makerspace

Today's Awesome Moment in Class: 7/8 Coding class is a mix of advanced students & novices. So we've mapped concepts like loops, variables, functions to Skill Trees (Thank You, Steph Piper). Each class they update their trees to see what they learned. #EduSky #VisualizeLearning #GrowthDataInEdu

My book, Skill Seeker, is now available! I've been working on this for a while and am so excited to finally have it up on Amazon and Booktopia. If you're into Maker hobbies, it's perfect for tracking your growth and goals going into 2025.

Here's the phases I went through in writing and refining my book, Skill Seeker. After many rounds of feedback and hundreds of beta testing copies I have a final result that I'm super proud of. Don't expect you're going to get it right the first time.
