Spooky season begins 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️ Henry Fuseli’s “The Three Witches” (1783), hand painted onto an unlimited Counterspell.

Counterspell 2 of 4, after a 17th-century Italian painting with mixed attributions. I love all the witchy details throughout the scene, and again, the echo of Mark Poole's OG art in the pose of the figure here. #mtgalters #mtgalter #mtgcommunity #spookyseason

Counterspell, after Angelo Caroselli’s circa 1620 “Scene of Sorcery.” Part of the storytelling in my alters is thinking about how the MTG art that is overpainted is still in our minds when looking at an alter; here, it’s that classic Mark Poole shocked face/gesture, by different means.

Obviously the Zeta set is right up my alley (Painted this baddie last year)

Hi all! I've received many questions about the Zeta cards previewed today and their common rarity. These cards listed from SLZ (such as Baleful Strix, but there are more) will not change Pauper legality. Secret Lair reprints are not meant to impact Pauper. Thanks! #wotcstaff

AC stopped working, verdict is in. Whole HVAC replacement. If anyone wants to buy a Hidden Hideout mystery alter (I have 5 available at $150) or sign up for an October completion date alter let me know! 😅 Past Hidden Hideout alter for attention

Vintage Magic the Gathering art! What a surprise to learn that an unpublished oldie for Magic finally gets a release! There are a couple more in their archive that have yet to see the light of day, so you never know.🤞

With The Odyssey having a moment, it felt like time to revisit two of my favorite alters inspired by ancient Greece. Uril, the Miststalker as Achilles and K+T as Zeus+Ganymede. I recreated the original vessels, including their crack patterns and restorations. #mtgalters #magicthegathering

Captions details, for the (art) nerds like me: Uril after Exekias' celebrated black-figure amphora (c. 540 BCE) Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis after a red-figure kylix (c. 475–425 BCE)

Folding MTG lore into art history using original illustration is a big lift...but looking back at this set makes me want to try it again! Su-Chi's tour: First, a top-hatted walk in Seurat, followed by a jam session in Picasso, letting out a scream w/ Munch, and pointing to the heavens in Da Vinci.

Complete art caption info, for nerds like me: 🎨😁 Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” 1884–1886. Pablo Picasso’s “Three Musicians,” 1921. Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” 1893. Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” c. 1495–1498

The Yawg Will is after Jacques-Louis David's 1787 "The Death of Socrates." This detail shows Socrates' followers obeying his stated final wishes (to let him drink the hemlock, as per his sentence).

“I’ll Pyroblast that Mistmeadow Witch from your mono white deck” Feels weird. @bmkibler.bsky.social points out this nonsense, among other things, in his well reasoned video, linked below ⬇️

Shared my thoughts on some of the current conversations in Magic Commander, most notably the proposed change to the Hybrid Mana rules youtu.be/1JQmBBB2W9k

No major changes to the Brackets this time, but we've been working on clarifying some of the ~*vibes~* around each Bracket, including adding "safe turns" and delineating expectations for decks, win conditions, and gameplay. We've also removed tutor restriction from 1 & 2.

Snapped this pic the last time I played Eternal Weekend (12-3 on Hogaak in Legacy, if I remember correctly...?) Coming back to my hometown this year for the festivities. If you're in town, give a holler!
