Two years ago, SkyMapper was just an idea. Today: telescopes across six continents, 1,465 users and 36 TiB of sky data. From an idea to a global network watching the universe together.

Observation of the week: 87 Sylvia, spotted by our SkyKeepers. This potato-shaped asteroid has two moons: Romulus and Remus. SkyMapper CEO Franck Marchis led the team that discovered its triple-system nature in 2005, the first ever identified.

What would you observe if the whole sky were within reach? 🌌🔭 Andromeda. Orion. Saturn. A comet. A distant supernova. SkyViewer puts telescopes around the world at your fingertips. Your location doesn’t have to limit your view of the universe. skymapper.io/skyviewer

A bigger SkyMapper network starts with the ability to build at scale. 🌍 Our partnership with HansaMatrix brings SkySphere another step closer to scalable production, helping us expand the network companies, researchers and communities can build on.

🔭 Observation of the Week: Triangulum Galaxy (M33) Want to see a galaxy 2.7 million light-years away? Open SkyMapper LiveView, select a telescope in Europe or North America, calibrate, choose M33 and observe for 5–10 minutes. 🌌

Buy a SkySphere and it’s yours. No forced subscriptions or planned obsolescence, with replaceable and upgradeable components. We’re starting with 150+ stations, building a global network monitoring everything from meteors and satellite reentries to our increasingly busy skies.

160,000 light-years away. Observed from South Carolina. Captured by a telescope in Australia. 🌌 The Tarantula Nebula is a vast stellar nursery in the Large Magellanic Cloud. One observer. Another continent. A whole other galaxy.

100,000+ blocks and counting. The SkyMapper blockchain just crossed 100,000 blocks on Avalanche, helping build a verifiable history for observations across the network. Web3 is the infrastructure. The observations are what matter. The sky is just beginning and we're growing strong.

If you can’t trust the data, you can’t trust the science. As AI makes fake observations easier to create, provenance matters more than ever. At Avalanche Summit NYC, our CEO @allplanets.bsky.social explained how blockchain can help make astronomical data verifiable from the moment it’s captured.

SkyMapper's first telescope in West Africa is now online in Côte d'Ivoire. Another SkyKeeper. Another view of the sky. Another step toward truly global coverage. Welcome to the network, Côte d'Ivoire 🌐

One SkySphere. Three very different things happening overhead. Aurora over Jyväskylä, Finland, captured by SkyKeeper Petri Tikannen on August 18. Look closely: a bright meteor crosses at 0:04, followed by an airplane at 0:06. Keep watching. SkySphere does.

A lot has happened this summer. Our @kickstarter.com campaign reached 200% of its funding goal. The global SkyMapper network grew. New telescope integrations went into beta. And our work in astronomy, airspace security and Space Situational Awareness took some major steps forward.
