If as I’m leaving a store I stop to hold the door open for you with a big smile in greeting, and you cannot muster a thank you or at the very least a weak smile, I’m fairly sure by law I’m allowed to let the door close on your backside.

That’s like their continued attack on food benefits (SNAP). They don’t realize (or care) that money then boosts local groceries stores, often in smaller markets, which in turn boosts jobs/wages for cashiers, stockers, butchers, managers and indirectly to meat supply chains and produce growers.
