BREAKING. From a reliable source. MITRE support for the CVE program is due to expire tomorrow. The attached letter was sent out to CVE Board Members.

While I want the game to handle way more clients than that, just spawning them like this is super valuable for testing. In this video, they are all running locally. Who know what the current bottleneck is, but now I can find out!

Without screen recording, I can spawn 400 to 500 clients. But I'm pretty sure that the server could handle more, and just running the game 500 times is the problem. The htop screenshot is with 400 clients.

Hole punching is a method that allows two clients behind a NAT / firewall / etc. to talk to each other directly. It uses a relay server, but only for the initial connection. Once clients are connected, the relay is not used anymore.

Very basic networking is working! It took a while to decide which protocol I want to use and whether I want to use a networking library or not. I ended up choosing raw UDP, let's see if I will regret that decision!

It took some time, but I can now create puzzle pieces from any picture! Each piece has its own, generated mesh, but they all share the same material. Felt great seeing it actually work, after many failed attempts!

I'm trying to make a puzzle game that can handle thousands of concurrent players. Before I could even think about the network side, I got sucked into a rabbit-hole about how to generate the shapes for puzzle pieces. But, behold! A quarter of a puzzle piece!

You are up to date.
