i encourage all cishet dudes to have a cadre of women friends because you'll eventually get to a place where you wan to unblock the sweet but broken woman you called things off with and they'll remind you why it's a stupid plan

new computer is getting built monday. i am so excited for several games i've wanted to get into. the problem is that i beat sol cesto and none of the other games i have are really calling to me. i wonder if i could do a complete rimworld run between now and then

i've started to rethink some of my verbiage. i am trying to think of "productivity" in terms of making things like crochet or woodworking projects instead of "being more efficient at work." my conditioning still rewards me bc i'm trained on the words but i'm doing something that matters.

Kind of thinking of coming to this bar to journal. It's clean and well lit. As much as I hate Hemingway, it would be a fine place to work. I'm a member of the discount club at the brewery around the corner but writing in a place as sad as this seems lit.

i'm not super looking to date seriously but the apps are where i doomscroll now. it's left me with a few impressions: 1. there are women out there with whom i have a lot in common and it could be a good thing. none of them live anywhere near me

3. the common complaint that men can't carry on a conversation is applicable to a lot of women. i thought maybe it was me being boring, saying something dumb, or lack of real interest in the people i match with, so i've checked some conversations with women friends. the consensus is that i'm above

average in the conversation department. ultimately, it's a small sample size. there's a small percentage of people on the apps in a sparsely populated area. it still leaves me with the impression that, since i'm not moving for a couple years at least, i'll have to settle for casual or being single.

2. there is a surprising lack of diversity in this area. i'm not talking about race (though that is quite homogeneous). even accounting for things like hair, makeup, etc., it's unnerving. i started paying attention to dudes when i'm out and it isn't just the ladies who all look vaguely the same.

finally finished Malazan Book of the Fallen. between the divorce, moving, and everything else, it took almost 10 months to finish The Crippled God. it's well worth it. i was in tears at several points at the end. probably more would have gotten through but i think i have a fever. read this series!

my toilet seat broke. like, the seat itself snapped. i emailed about it yesterday and got no response so i called today. i got the... less competent office worker and she said she'd get on it. i got a call back from the more competent one who wanted to confirm how it was broken and asked for pics

when i assured her it didn't simply need tightening, she asked how it happened i replied, "what can i say? i'm a big person." i was thinking, "who knows how old the thing is and it gets used a minimum of twice a day. i can give you exact details of my activities at the time of the incident."

this sentiment makes me chuckle bc i think this is generally true but two of my best friends were homeschooled and are among the smartest people i know. one of them had highly intelligent parents and the other just Is That Way. i love me some outliers

I saw someone refer to homeschooling as “trickle down stupidity.” Immediate addition to my lexicon.

i've got that summertime SAD hitting hard and i would like a hook up just to distract myself. unfortunately i only have three watering holes in walking distance i don't want to drive if i'm drinking. one is populated by all older couples, one closes at 10 every night, and the last
