...so it pays to invest in upstream, nature-based flood defences. Which can also boost biodiversity and sequester carbon. From our work with land managers we know most want to use land more sustainably, in ways to boost natural systems and wildlife...

...but they just need long-term funding, not short-term gov schemes. We help show the potential of both their land and diff funding options available. Joining with others to offer landscape-scale investment is the next step.

Will AI have a positive impact on the environment through improved research modelling, or a net negative impact through its vast energy and water use? We're part of a research project on this Q. Here we explain the problem of efficiency gains leading to increased AI demand: the Jevon's paradox.

AI can make environmental modelling faster & cheaper. But what if those efficiency gains lead to more use & demand? Our animation with @mairperkins.bsky.social, @smallworldconsult.bsky.social & @lancasteruni.bsky.social explores the 'rebound effect' in sustainable Digital Research Infrastructure.

Delighted to welcome Scotland’s First Minister, @johnswinney.bsky.social to deliver a keynote at a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing at Holyrood yesterday. He committed in his address to working collaboratively to ensure the film is “𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝”.

Moving just some of our farmland from cattle and sheep (and crops grown to feed them) to home-grown legumes, is a massive win for: 🌍climate 🥗health 🦉biodiversity 💸people's shopping bills Which is why so many orgs and communities can support #banginsomebeans campaign. Great to it working!

The Food Foundation@foodfoundation.bsky.social

It's official, shoppers are eating more beans and lentils. It's no surprise given they're a triple win for health, sustainability and our wallets! www.theguardian.com/food/2026/au...

✈️ €10.9bn in free carbon allowances went to European airlines between 2013 and 2025. How much did they spend on decarbonisation? Just €1bn. So where did the rest go? 🧵

The pistachio problem - a fashionable food that's sinking the ground it grows on from its thirst for water. In a changing climate, carbon footprints don't show everything about how sustainable our food really is. Pistachios - time to be a treat, not a staple? theconversation.com/can-producer...

theconversation.comCan producers keep up with our hunger for pistachios?Pistachio production will require even more water use by 2050 if temperatures and greenhouse gas levels continue to rise.

More turmoil at the GHG Protocol and another prominent resignation. The carbon accounting industry needs to be built on the best available science, to build trust in carbon footprint data. Scientists resigning is a worrying sign. financialpost.com/pmn/business...

Good to see another initiative to make sharing carbon footprint data between different business suppliers easier. #OpenCCF Open Corporate Carbon Footprint Data Model has been developed by our friends at the SME Climate Hub and is endorsed by the Carbon Accounting Alliance. openccf.org

When we map landscape carbon, peatland restoration in our uplands is vital, and could help create net zero or even net negative National Parks. Add in the increased risk of flooding to cities like York and Carlisle, and these cuts don't make economic sense. inews.co.uk/news/defra-c...

Exactly. There will be no new normal. The weather will keep becoming more extreme until the world decarbonises. We might have the odd calmer year but the trend will be more extreme. So today’s UK weather is the least extreme we can ever expect. Time to finally WAKE UP.

Prof Bill McGuire@profbillmcguire.bsky.social

NO! It's going to keep getting hotter year-on-year, decade-by-decade Until we stop pumping out greenhouse gases and positive feedback loops and tipped tipping points have finished with us And the temperature will stay elevated for many thousands of years www.theguardian.com/world/video/...

A report by TheCityUK and insurer Marsh warns of 'protection gaps' as extreme weather events increase. "The report argues there is more that could be done by the private sector... in developing ways to account for climate resilience in insurance." www.theguardian.com/business/202...

The UK SRS that are coming into effect for the 2027 reporting standard will likely apply to large enterprises, which will be looking for SRS-compliant reporting from their supply chains. SRS S2 will make reporting on all GHG Protocol Scope 3 categories mandatory.

If you want to ensure that you are capturing everything from your supply chain, especially the 'missing emissions' inherent when using product carbon footprints, talk to us about your Scope 3 emissions and how we can help you make them system-complete, and supplier-specific.

🎂 Carbon capture is used as a distraction by oil companies, who use it at the source of emissions to try to lower the carbon footprint of their oil. That's like taking the icing off a cake and labelling it 'diet cake'. Just don't eat the cake - have an apple 🍎
