Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

The "Bribery and Compliance" training always seems to walk a tightrope between what not to do and how to do it better

Duncan Weldon@duncanweldon.bsky.social

A conversation has reminded me of the worst ever training I received. Anti-discrimination stuff as part of a graduate scheme. An external lawyer asked us to list the ways we could discriminate against someone and wrote them on a whiteboard. He then told us which were illegal and crossed them out.

Poor Take is his Stage Name

Ruth Deyermond@ruthdeyermond.bsky.social

This is a poor take that suggests Owen Jones doesn't know much about Russia in the 1990s, including Russia-US or wider Russia-West relations in the 1990s. By giving only one part of the story, he is repeating the Russian political elite's self-serving line that it was all the West's fault. Long 🧵

Can’t believe no one has ever thought of the idea of selling us hot food. I, for one, am both excited and, if I’m honest, a little apprehensive about the idea of warm food. www.ft.com/content/bdb6... Subway rival bets hot sandwiches will sell in UK’s ‘cold and rain’

So from now until a month after the Budget we are going to get a bunch of these half baked tax/spend policy every week - oh joy

Dan Neidle@danneidle.bsky.social

Universities UK wants the government to scrap employer National Insurance for everyone under 25. It doesn’t say what that would cost. Or how many jobs it would create. So we did the maths: £6–7bn a year, or £60-100k for every additional job. A 🧵 on dumb tax policy.

Please donate where you can - it does cost a lot to get a massive emotional punch in the guts but it will be worth it

As a new season gets underway, football fans across the country are being urged to support efforts to eradicate tragedy chanting from the game. Tragedy chanting can land fans in serious trouble, including convictions and banning orders. We don’t want to see football fans criminalised.

and lets not forget @georgecaulkin.bsky.social your main job these days is to make grown men cry with deeply emotional pieces about wonderful and less wonderful things going on at Newcastle Untitled. Keep up the great work

George Caulkin@georgecaulkin.bsky.social

I am going to address this. The way I have done my job has been consistent for 30+ yrs. I try to find out what’s happening & explain. The only way to do that is by speaking to people & attempting to build relationships. On occasion those relationships get blurred ... I loved Sir Bobby for instance.

This all goes back to the idea that any political scandal post should go up for 24hrs without saying who it's about and see how people react (ideal world stuff)

James Ball@jamesrball.com

It is silly not to apologise imo, or to make it dragged out of you did. It's a good defensive line: "of course I'll say sorry, it was an accident and shouldn't have happened" and means in future you can make a point of saying *you* apologised for your mistake so why won't X apologise for theirs?

I don’t think I can begin to get across how much this amazing man means to me, or how, in the space a of a few short months he seemed to transform the world, because, as far as I was concerned, he did. (short 🧵 following if I can compose myself)

Because we are 10 years on. I still don’t really understand that period of 60-90 minutes after the Sunderland results when people still thought remain would win and markets didn’t react. Absolutely mad twilight zone experience.

It's quite a fun exercise to try to work out what the most working class and most middle class version of the story of your own social background you could tell. (I could tell wildly different stories about my own social class by picking the biographies of two grandparents - one from each parent.)
