My 40th birthday was amazing! My gift to myself (and a long process it was) is my MAIDEN NAME! Same manga content, just back to my roots. Hope y’all will come along with me as I dawn my family name once again.

I am so honored that I got to be part of the selection committee for the 1st ever Sophie Castile Award. I read so many wonderful books & choosing a winner was difficult. Translators have a vital job & they are integral to our enjoyment of books! AI DOESN’T COMPARE! Congratulations to Montana Kane!

Esports Adventures: told kids they have to keep their noses clean, and they looked at each other and rubbed their literal noses. One asked, “is there something on my face?” And I said, “no y’all, it’s an expression.” And he said, “oh, like figurative language!” Shout out to my English peeps.

Smells like Green Spirit is a difficult read, but an important one. Nagai-sensei has created some compelling characters, and I got swept up in their journey of self-discovery. @kodansha.us #GraphicLibrary #Manga #SchoolLibraries Check out the full review: www.graphiclibrary.org/reviews/smel...

I may have told two of my Spanish only esports kiddos to “escribe su namae” today, which has the Japanese word for name and I am now ashamed and thankful that they figured it out. Thanks brain.

Taking a bit of a break on review posts as we head back to school and I research alternatives to the sinking ship that is Weebly.

Congrats to all the nominees and winners, and I’m so happy for Purgatory Funeral Cakes. This is a very special series, and it was one of my favorites of 2025. This category was very hard to vote in this year, but I’m super happy with the result!
