i think one of the things you can do as a man in this horrible industry (and in the world) is make yourself a safe man to tell. when i think of safe men to tell (and the list is not very long im sorry to say) i think about men who believe me when i talk about a microaggression.

who do not dismiss or downplay when i mention something mildly sexist that is happening. because if you do not believe or defend me when i say "this guy seems to talk to me different than he talks to men" why would i ever expect you to believe me about something worse

its interesting also because reacher sort of represents all these different american ideals blended up and poured out into a giant man. hes not an immigrant, of course, but he was raised on international army bases. hes not really FROM america, he's arrived here. to do justice and right wrongs.

It's hard to describe what exactly makes the world of TOEM so enticing, but I'd say as a game, it really feels like play. Which maybe sounds redundant, but it feels like play in the playground sense, exploratory, full of unexpected delight. It's a game that makes you want to slow down a little.

padding the word count of my novel by adding "So anyways," to the front of every paragraph. obviously you can't really do that with the first paragraph of the book, but in all other cases it's fair game. if you can drop in the occasional "So basically what the whole deal is, is that," even better

I think something so gorgeous about the world is that you can come to love bugs. Almost everybody is socialized into a mild-extreme fear of bugs, and while I still am rarely pleased to see a house centipede, my reaction is just that this thing is SO fast and so legs ahh.
