Not even kidding, I will happily do a video chat with any Dem candidate or staffer. There aren’t a lot of forces working to get Democrats on the same page with this, so there’s all kinds of hand waving and vagueness. In less than 30 minutes I can walk through basics, answer q’s etc.

I can probably put the boilerplate response in a post “yeah, I’m happy to stand with people making safer choices. the federal laws are dumb, the people have spoken, it’s not even that controversial of a take anymore, even in red states. feel free to catch up.”

these are two coalitions within DSA, can’t be denied, but they are just two. there are at least 4-6 more caucuses, too.

Just to silo it to one of my fields, but it applied everywhere— the past decade has transformed what is known about most popular sports. We have more data about athletic performance than ever, and human bodies, and it provokes novel questions about “who owns what data, who determines data’s value?”

and to get VERY stoner with it— i think a lot of this is humanity at the frontier of understanding what *is* data. for good and for bad, and what is its value, what does it say about individual experience vs data, etc.

Which metrics are available to a team (a company), which data is available only to athletes and their personal reps? What health data renders contracts void? All of this gets hammered out in negotiations (or should) but these are novel facets to consider, the complexity only increases.

and over the past….75ish years, the field of data (and data privacy) and predictive technologies has blossomed. it was a hairy road, between banking and telecoms and hospitals and government. But over time, we realized some forms of regulation and certifying of Holders of Certain Data was needed.
