Because of how last-minute everything had to be (you don't know if it's a good candidate until near the end of its descent), I was often asking my manager for last-minute half days of PTO so I could go hunting. And yes, I did catch a few, although I lost many more to the high NB trees (:

When not used it would live on top of my server rack, connected to power & internet, so that the battery was always fully charged and the wind predictions were always up to date. When there was a good candidate to chase, I'd throw the milk crate into my trunk and stick the antenna & GPS to my roof

The computer ran an AP that I could connect to on my phone to watch where the radiosonde was (and where it was predicted to land). I would put the phone on my dash and drive to where I expected it to land. Cell service in rural New Brunswick is spotty, so the entire thing ran completely offline.

if I can't explain what it's for then it's for emotional support, which means it still has a purpose

"AI is bad because it makes computers nondeterministic" my sister in christ we've had speculative execution for DECADES

Oh yeah and I found this photo at the same time from a few weeks ago. I made a degausser by wiring up a curled up extension cord and ran hot through hot + neutral (into a toaster oven) so the magnetic fields would combine instead of cancel out. It worked incredibly well; the entire cable vibrated

Throwback to when I tried to melt the snow in my driveway by using CAT 5 cord as a heating element, running directly off of mains

stranded in frankfurt on my way to nixcon oops. missed my connecting flight due to technical difficulties -> 3 hour delays getting through customs and they put me on a 9pm flight (I landed at 9am ): ) anyway if anyone else is in a similar position feel free to say hi. I look like a nix user

I spilled what I thought was a small amount of water on the desk my thinkpad was on (knocked over a glass when I got up in the middle of the night) and now one of the usb c ports is flaky and the thinkpad itself keeps doing weird things and crashing ):

new roommate uses a different subnet than me ๐Ÿ˜” Not sure if I can be bothered to move all my devices over, however my basic-ass 192.168.1.1/24 made me insecure (I used to have a 10.0.0.1/8 before moving to the US) so maybe this a good opportunity to have a slightly cooler network topolgy

i just wanna sit in my room and build my silly software and hardware but NO i have to be a real adult and do real adult things like going to the taxes store

you know what ELSE is constraint solving? changing my legal name. so many edges NS name change -> Canadian passport -> visa (NY name change | Canadian passport) -> SSN -> License I used to be like "worst case I can change my name again" but god I hope not
