The ZX Spectrum Next is the official recreation of the legendary ZX Spectrum home computer using FPGA technology, updated for the 21st century!

This will require 28 MHz Turbo Mode and 2MB of RAM, because I'm officially tired of optimizing things for a while.
@specnext.com I hope that's acceptable for minimum specs (I'm new to ZX Spectrum Next development still so I don't know the community that well).

And the ZX Spectrum Next just got it's new NextBench OS, featuring GUI, multitasking, apps... Thanks to Em00k's wizardry, the humble Z80 never felt this powerful!

Spectrum Next #Delphian progress: added a linked polygon system so that I can link surface detail to a polygon. Also added support for 5-sided polygons. Rearranged some memory too, so models are now in their own bank. Oh, and added some quick lasers too! Next step might be to make ships move...

Couldn't sleep last night, head full of ideas, so did a late coding session converting the clipLine routine from C to asm. There was a bug I couldn't fix, so slept on it and identified it straight away this morning. I can now start on clipping filled triangles now clipLine is in the asm domain.
Clive Townsend, of Saboteur fame, has curated a list of most of the games that have been made for the ZX Spectrum Next. And there are many gems here, check it out:

Look at these numbers
0.5
0.19
0.123
0.1648
0.12345
0.747747
0.1234321
0.12345678
All are inaccurate on the standard ZX Spectrum.
For the true floating point form print the number with a divisor.
e.g.
12345/100000 has mantissa 7CD35A85 not 7CD35A84 as used in the Spectrum.
I fixed it for ya! 🙂
The Gosh Wonderful ZX Spectrum ROM V1.40 is available for download along with a useful BASIC program “peeker” that I use to peek under the hood. It uses 3 routines by Steve Vickers written for other Z80 computers back in the 80s.
They achieve total accuracy.

Le ZX Spectrum Next @specnext.com lance sa troisième (et sans doute dernière) campagne Kickstarter pour une nouvelle version qui émule cette fois aussi le Commodore 64... mag.mo5.com/272466/le-zx...
👨💻 It’s been exciting to watch the @specnext.com Issue 3 ramp up to big numbers over on @kickstarter.com.
I’m reminded to check in every now and then, such as with this short interview 👇
It’s rocking in just shy of £1.5million as I type. Amaze! 🤩

QL Next core update: Mode 16 has been updated to match the Thor palette bringing even more compatibility. On other news, Tobias' FAT32 driver is working quite well in R and W mode. Only thing missing is the XTcc-compatible dataspace implementation and bye-bye container files!
In between running a studio and SpecNext @olifiers.bsky.social puts his maker hat on and finds some time for some fancy eye candy (Should we make these available on specnext.com?) #zxspectrumnext#retrocomputing#lapelpins
