Saluki 27B - open source model that fits in a 16gb laptop based on Qwen3.8-27B. So apparently you can get work done locally on a small laptop now, that 9 months ago was only possible on crazy hardware. So for evening hack projects any subscriptions might be obsolete soon? underdog.ai/saluki
sslx - openssl, but you don't have to google the flags Rust written CLI tool to simplfy grade, verify or inspect certs as well as creating them. github.com/glincker/sslx
enroute - git object storage on S3 "Code hosting is the last piece of the software stack still stuck in SaaS.". Rewriting git so it fits perfectly on object storage is a good idea to probably get bought by GitHub or Gitlab very quick... enroute.sh/blog/everyon...
Radix colors - A gorgeous, accessible color system for user interfaces So helpful for folks like me who are just not good at designing UIs to create a custom palette of colors. www.radix-ui.com/colors
pyronaut - A high-performance Python framework Written in Micronaut and GraalVM, claims to be much faster than other frameworks. Seems also to be written and maintained by folks working at Oracle. pyronaut.io
rowing-machine - Fast + flexible simulated data generator with configurable themes. Written in Rust, has three scenarios (ecommerce, saas, travel), generates csv, jsonl or parquet data, plus optional compression. github.com/gwenwindflow...

tsuzuri - TUI markdown notebook vim style editing, diagrams, kanban board, calendar, all within a single TUI, let's see if it is worth replacing silverbullet - switching has never been easier in the times of markdown. github.com/jaisuriya-11...
jeyzma - run System One models, 100% local in browser Written in Go and compiled with TinyGo to wasm. Crazy how quick this kind of models became local first. github.com/hybridgroup/...
ZXC: Lossless compression built for ultra-fast decode Faster decoding than lz4 by spending extra time upfront in encoding. Bindings in rust, python, node, go and wasm so far. libzxc.org
OpenTelemetry SDK overhead Comparing the different programming languages and their SDK overhead. Python not faring well, interesting to see that sampling lowers the cost but never removes, including Java and C++. docs.coroot.com/tracing/open...
jrs - a JVM build system written in Rust Like jenesis, just for single module setups, but the simplicity looks nice. Also interesting to see Rust taking over tooling. Supports pinning, docs, showing outdated dependencies and many more. getjrs.dev
TIL you can use mise to bootstrap your macos defaults (hiding the dock, keyboard repeat rate, finder defaults). I usually use some shell scripts in my dotfiles repo - this looks much cleaner and more extensive. mise.jdx.dev/bootstrap.html
Ingestr - CLI that allows you to ingest data from any source into any destination Not just for databases, but also many platforms like HR platforms or social media analytics, chess or soccer data. getbruin.com/docs/ingestr/
Lakebase Search: State-of-the-art full text and vector search for Postgres Postgres based FTS/vector search content this week, so let's finish the week with that as well. Quite a few solutions for search in postgres, time for a settlement/selection phase next. www.databricks.com/blog/lakebas...
Long read/interview with Tom Lane about 30 years of Postgres. Covers scalability, threads, MVCC, query planning vacuuming and many other things. It's always so good to have folks who have worked years on the same piece of software and share the history. www.snowflake.com/en/blog/engi...
You may have read the planetscale TIN vs. ParadeDB blog posts already. First the TIN announcement, then ParadeDB with improvements & showing benchmark flaws. Reminder: It's crazy hard to built fair comparisons when you know one product inside out, but not the other. www.paradedb.com/blog/opening...
PSA: Started a youtube channel called UnderstandingSearch Currently I am releasing daily 30s videos about random Elasticsearch features, first 30 episodes are out already. www.youtube.com/channel/UCtu...
Luxir - a new search engine From the inventor of Solr, written in C++, not clustered for now, uses gRPC, supports streaming import, vector search & hybrid search. Lots of similar terminology with Lucene/Solr/Elasticsearch, so reading the docs will be quite easy. luxir.org
Principles of Memory Management in Java Nice introduction, but also some hints why benchmarks that solely focus on throughput/memory might need to be rethought. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr73...
Announcing blob-stream: a Kafka alternative for no fuss, low cost high volume streaming Interesting post, showing a 10x cost reduction, while maintaining the required feature set for their use-case. The Kafka protocol has become a redis like grail of compatibility. blog.bitdrift.io/post/blob-st...

RAGE4J - RAG Evaluations for Java a Java toolkit for evaluating LLM outputs and using unit tests/assertions for evaluation. rage4j.dev
Went to devcamp unconference/barcamp last week in Düsseldorf. Almost forgot how refreshing ad-hoc agendas are. You may have guessed the core topic. It was like 90% AI, everyone still figuring out how to use it best, from models to tools to harnesses to working with legacy code.
Noone is lagging behind cause everyone is still in testing mode. I hope there will be a point in time when we talk about other topics again. Not even k8s can beat the AI hype right now 😂 Looking forward to unconf next month. unkonf.de/de
Dashdown - Use Markdown & SQL to create dashboards Uses tailwind, allows to create own components, realtime updates, has a dozen connectors. Used CSV solar data to try. Seems that evidence now has cloud lock-in, so that someone else created an open source alternative in python. dashdown.ai

It's interesting to see that AI agents being "dumb humans" requires to pay more attention to user experience, which ultimately also benefits humans. This article on the new Elastic CLI explains this nicely. www.elastic.co/search-labs/...
