You objectively have more leisure time then a subsistence farmer. Obviously.

It's bizarre to me how many people in the comments here seem to think that automation is going to translate into more freedom for the working class. When has that ever panned out? How much leisure time do you have, after years of these "innovations"? We are Charlie Brown trying to kick the football

I finished Memoirs From Beyond The Tomb, by Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand. An arch-conservative and the father of French Romanticism, the man was that rare breed of politician, writer, and adventurer that only the nineteenth century produced He was a bad person - but what a life.

I obviously am on the side of the judge in this one, but this is much more likely to get slapped down by an appeals court then just plainly writing "motion of petitioner XYZ is granted."

The Second Amendment is meaningless if the government can legally kill you for exercising it, says Cato’s Matthew Cavedon. Only restraints on the use of force can stop officials from turning the Second Amendment into an excuse to kill civilians.

ow.lyThe Second Amendment Is Meaningless If the Government Can Kill You for Exercising ItThe Second Amendment gives people the right to bear arms, and the Fourth Amendment promises to stop the government from killing them for doing so.

new york magazine has a very nasty article out about my beautiful golden throne, which they say is the only thing keeping me alive. when I'm sitting on my big beautiful throne I am NOT ASLEEP!! I am directing the beacon of the astronomican, something sleepy joe did very badly may I add

I see nothing wrong with this? It's really civics education for children, which strikes me as a totally reasonable thing for a Supreme Court Justice to write a book about. I'm sure he'd go on MSNBC if they'd have him; they would not.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Neil Gorsuch went on Fox & Friends this morning to hype his new [checks notes] children's book

"Writing a general audience book" is a pretty standard thing for Justices to do. I own both of Gorsuch's previous books; Scalia's legal writing and reasoning books with Bryan Garner are must haves.

I'd like to think that we can have a world where people can be mean to, say, the droid army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and not to real people. That's the big goal I aim for.

Between 1890 and 1901 the Empress of Austria-Hungary, the Prime Minister of Spain, the President of France, the King of Italy, and the President of the United States were all assassinated by anarchists.

Reconstructionist@unavaleable.bsky.social

oh you know what that's exactly right, this is akin to (some of) the stochastic anarchist terrorism of the late 1800s

If you're surprised that Rand Paul is reflexively against the use of military arms you're not paying attention. He was against supporting the Ukrainians and the Israelis for the same reasons; he was and is an isolationist.

The Showa comparisons are honestly applicable given that "the Army has fallen from the favor of the emperor, it is now the Navy's time in the limelight" is a headline

Army parade ‘disappointed’ Trump, so Navy will do one too. The U.S. Navy is reportedly throwing Trump an even bigger military parade this fall, as he wasn’t satisfied by the first one.

In Sept. 2008, Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux were slotted to pitch the third game of a three-game series between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. Both got scratched. Their replacements? Two unknown rookies named Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw. http://dlvr.it/TMLFHM

Why would he possibly complain about this haha

LeBron James isn’t concerned about his fit with Luka Dončić. But he did seem to take issue with the blindsiding nature of the trade that led to Dončić becoming his new teammate. @jovanbuha.bsky.social on James' first media comments since the blockbuster: www.nytimes.com/athletic/611...

1/30 – MIGUEL BATISTA RHP, 2010 Journeyman was long reliever during lone year in DC, famously made 1 start after Stephen Strasburg scratched. Joked fans wanted “Miss Universe” but got “Miss Iowa.” Real Miss Iowa, Katherine Conners, threw out first pitch at Nats Park 3 days later.

particularly maddening coming from the DC political press. "we didn't remotely communicate the stakes of this election, but Trump has a mandate to do the things we didn't tell you about, hands tied"

I *guarantee* you with a 6-man bullpen, you'll see guys go past 100 pitches. There's really no other choice, because you back yourself into a corner within 2 games, basically. They don't let guys go deep now because they always have a rested arm to go to. Guys barely go back-to-back in-season now!

The Ultimate Pielord@theultimatepielord.bsky.social

Idk, I feel like the most likely move is gonna be to try and ride guys longer at max-effort and accept the risk of injury rather than trying to dodge it. Like, right now teams basically never let a pitcher go an extra inning with a pitch count of 100+. Change the rules, they will.

Washington being good still seems vaguely fake to me. I don’t believe it.

Jake Russell@jakerussell.bsky.social

Well that was something… And like that, Washington has won nine games for the first time since 2015 and has its best start through 14 games since beginning the 1992 campaign at 9-5.

You are up to date.
