"The world needs highly trained classical artists just as much as it needs scrappy, unschooled, “thinking outside the box” artists. It needs the voices of all kinds of artists from all kinds of backgrounds and with all kinds of points of view. We are NOT in competition with one another. 1/2

We can lift each other up, celebrate each other’s victories. As artists, we should choose to use our skills, passion, and talent to create art and to lift up the art of others. Not to bring them down." From my book Becoming an Artist 2/2

"Our art, just like ourselves, should be diverse. It should be unique. Art is personal. It reflects our hopes and dreams, and our culture and our identities. Every artist is going to see the world differently. Make art differently. Live differently. Love differently." From my book Becoming an Artist

I did it! I started a Patreon! Lots of my friends have been encouraging me to try it... so today I did. If you know ANYTHING about Patreon... please let me know how I can make it an awesome experience. www.patreon.com/cw/ssavaart Sending Big Hugs from the Hobbit Hole. ♥♥♥ Scott

"You—and only you—get to decide if you are an artist. Other artists have NO say in this matter. Neither do your friends, your family, the government, and especially never ever ever can anyone online tell you that you are not an artist. Not EVER." From my book Becoming an Artist

"The world needs us artists, my friend. It needs our art in whatever form we wish to create. It needs poets and painters and dancers and singers. It needs art in color and in text and through weaving and rhyming. The world needs all of it." From my book Becoming an Artist

"Advocate for yourself. Speak up. Learning to advocate for yourself is such an important tool for young artists (and humans in general), because we all have needs that must be met, and sometimes the rest of the world doesn’t know. 1/2

How can teachers know what we need if we don’t tell them? Learning what your needs are and telling others about that is so important for us. Find out what your needs are, and don’t be ashamed to speak up for yourself." From my book Becoming an Artist 2/2

"I think the best thing I’ve learned to do is to listen. Listen to marginalized groups. Listen to people with disabilities. Listen to women. Listen to people of color. Listen to people in foreign lands. Listen to people who worship differently than you. 1/2

Listen to people who love differently than you. Listen to people who are suffering. Listen to people who just need someone to hear them. Listen." From my book Becoming an Artist 2/2

"And, with our art, as in life, we keep going. We figure it out. We problem-solve. We persist. Despite the heartache. Despite the inability we may have to solve this problem at this time. We learn. We grow. WE PERSIST." From my book Becoming an Artist

"Our art can do magical things. But none of it compares to the magic of kindness and empathy—and the generosity of giving a little bit of your time to be there for someone. To listen to someone. To hold their hand. To genuinely care when a fellow human being needed it the most." -Becoming an Artist

"Art is creation. It’s taking a blank page and turning it into a poem. Stretching out an empty canvas and breathing life onto it with the stroke of a brush and a swath of paint. It’s sitting before a quiet piano and waking it up with a song. 1/2

Where there was nothing, an artist creates something. Something beautiful. Thought-provoking. Tragic. Controversial. That’s what artists do: We create." From my book Becoming an Artist 2/2

Johnny Ringo: And you must be Doc Holliday. Doc Holliday: That's the rumor. Ringo: You retired too? Doc : Not me. I'm in my prime. Ringo: Yeah, you look it. Doc : And you must be Ringo. Look, darling, Johnny Ringo. The deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. 1/2

Doc: What do you think, darling? Should I hate him? Kate: You don't even know him. Doc: Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him. 2/2

"I'm just like any modern woman trying to have it all. Loving husband, a family. It's just, I wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade." -Angelica Huston as Morticia Addams

Sarah: Through dangers untold. And hardships unnumbered. I have fought my way here to the castle; beyond the goblin city, to take back the child that you have stolen. My will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom as great... Jareth: Stop! Look what I'm offering you. Your dreams. 1/2

“You will think me cruel, very selfish, but love is always selfish; the more ardent the more selfish. How jealous I am you cannot know. You must come with me, loving me, to death; or else hate me, and still come with me, and hating me through death and after.” ― Sheridan Le Fanu, Carmilla

Bill: "This isn't the tragic suicide at the end of the play. I'm old. I'm satisfied. And you were my purpose." Frank: "I do not support this. I should be furious. But from an objective point of view, it's incredibly romantic. Take me to bed." -The Last of Us Watercolor and Ink

"I dig myself out of this hole. You do your job, Jimmy. Prove you can go one week— hell, one day without breaking the rules of the New Mexico Bar Association or pissing off your boss, and don't insult my intelligence by saying you are doing any of this for me. 1/2

"Seems Maximilian doesn't like the cut of your jib, little man. He is disturbed by your physiognomy. He is upset by your visage. Why would he not like your face?" -Station Inspector from the movie Hugo Gouache on aquabord

Should I speak to a literary agent? Should I go to my existing publisher (Hay House)? Should I finish the book first? Or send out a sample? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I know I will need a good editor to help me find my voice for prose, but the series had 34 million readers and was translated into 7 languages. We had toys and kids dressing up as the characters. 2/4
