I read novels, more than is healthy. Mostly SFF, some historical and romance. Will follow authors. True liberalism has never been tried. He/him.

My most idealistic and cynical beliefs are both extremely libertarian. First, I believe in open borders. Anyone should be able to come into the US with nothing more than a cursory border check. If you intend to become an American, then you get permanent resident status.

Second, I think no one should be able to tell someone else what they can build on their property. The only restrictions are stuff like no toxic fumes, no jet engine sounds all night, and it has to be structurally sound. Zoning is a privilege we've abused and now it has to go away.

Reaffirming this: anyone who voted for Platner in the Maine Democratic primary is either a credulous fool or an immoral piece of human garbage. Your choice.

And my opinion is that he's obviously a piece of shit awful human being and anyone who voted for him instead of any other democratic is also a piece of shit.

Trying to figure out how to read Amazon ebooks on my Kobo reader. Of course you have to install the Kindle app on your PC, download a bunch of sketchy tools from git hub, etc, I expected that.

Okay. I finished book 2 in the series at midnight, I'm opening book 3 on my device 2 hours later. Not horrible. Now that I have the method it should work quickly in the future (until Amazon pushes an update fucking everything up again). Just have to pray nothing I downloaded was too sketchy.

Fuck Kindle Unlimited. Fuck Amazon for abusing their reach to lock authors into their shitty store and their shitty readers and the ebook format with the most aggressive DRM scheme. This kind of monopolistic bullshit should be illegal.

What I didn't expect was for Windows to hide the Kindle app folder in a hidden folder I'm not allowed to access. Why don't they just put program files in the "Program Files" folder? I miss Windows XP. I think that was the last time I felt like I knew how my computer worked at even a basic level.

I added some oats to my boule recipe as an experiment (about 10% of the grain in the bread is rolled oats, the rest is bread flour). The result does not taste like oats, but is surprisingly soft and sweet.

In my latest Victoria 3 campaign (reactionary Austria trying to save absolutism in Europe), I was dismayed to see the Papal States give in to the radical movement and reform into the Roman Republic. But the pope was still the head of state, they just retitled him "Chancellor".

Thanks to JD Vance, the next generation of 19th Century history teachers will have a perfect example to explain the French Ultramonarchists and "more royalist than the king, more Catholic than the Pope".

No masks, no racial profiling, no arresting people in schools or hospitals, agents must identify themselves and use body cameras, agents must get judicial warrants before entering anyone's home. My main worry is enforcement. What happens when ICE just ignores these rules?

I've been reading some of C.J. Cherryh's Alliance-Union books, and holy shit am I glad those tech oligarchs haven't heard of her they way they have Iain Banks or Neal Stephenson. Elon Musk would have a division of Tesla trying to manufacture azi if he knew what they were.

I keep coming back to Kaiserreich, despite all its flaws as a game, because it fulfills the fantasy of taking any backwards, despotic, bigoted mess of a country and transforming it into a SocLib/SocDem paradise within 30 months.

Charlie Kirk was the kind of coward who though people who criticized him should go to prison and people who murdered his enemies should go free. He was wrong. Violence is still bad even when directed at someone as hateful and contemptible as him.

You are up to date.
