81. missed connections with tall girls / Gwen Aube As above, but it's the cybernetworked Discord dirt of this one that works - less the ephemera of the rave and more the tenuous limbos of the midWest. A kind of solidarity that elicits groans whilst on Twitter but made me cry versified on the page

80. E / Noa Micaela Fields I've become in the last couple years basically allergic to the freewheeling excitement/utopianism inevitable in the poetry of early transition - and this is not an exception. But! Zukofsky as a misheard muse charts a line here, makes remembering all that less ambivalent

79. The Death of the Clinic / Benoit Loiseau A book that rendered a hair more tolerable some of the realities facing my(our) being shunted further out of care in this country, without stooping to the dishonesty of reassurance. Keep learning from the hope lost before, the only way forwards

77. Guide / Dennis Cooper And here is where the pure feeling of Try starts sluicing right out of the cycle. Characters and what they undergo as manipulated pawns on a textual board, and Cooper, a voice obsessively operating/operated by his own machine, himself stuck there right alongside them

75. The Woman With One Hundred Faces / Katherine Rowland Devoured. Unbearable lifelong narcissism of the soul, subtended by the unflagging exasperated devotion of the men Nin circled herself with - their dance became for me more magnetic + moving than hers. (She really did fuck her dad one time)
And dialogue aside, man is one of *the* undersung prose stylists of the 20th century
74. Carpenter's Gothic / William Gaddis It's got nothing on the Recognitions or JR ,and the bite of its misanthropy is largely defanged by the 80s being a less advanced awful than today - but it's Gaddis, and there's no one like him. I don't get how he uses dialogue as pure velocity, it's magic

73. The Melancholy of Resistance / Laszlo Krazanhorkai Something happens to time when reading this one, it's like treacle. Fucked up European village, everyone's a lunatic or a bastard, there's a whale, etc. A dozen pages at a time dedicated to a thought that flickers into crisis into etc. ๐ฏ

72. Strange Hotel / Eimear McBride Failed to read two years ago, before I knew McBride was the kind of author each of whose books teaches you to hear the voice of the next. And, there now, I recognise in the rhythm of this one the displacements of age that I am just beginning to register in myself

71. Which As You Know Means Violence / Philippa Snow The sheer excitement of discovering this book exists carried me through the read, but unfortunately as a collection of essays it's pretty limp + redundant. Little you couldn't unravel yrself in an afternoon of spelunking on Wikipedia
