Protected areas are at the core of nature conservation Yet their benefits are limited if we don’t address the broad scale drivers of biodiversity loss I would add that they can encourage the thinking that humans can damage nature freely outside of protected areas www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

OK, some think we need positive stories to show nature can recover But the abiding message of this report is that nature continues to decline & conservation is not enough Humans need to change how we live & how we exploit the planet Tell it how it is, please www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Our global analysis of ecosystem functions and services is online now! This is probably the paper I'm most proud of - a quantitative, global map of every one of the IPBES ecosystem service categories, all tracked back to the original data! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Restoration ecologists have long known that many ecosystems are so degraded that simply leaving them to recover naturally will not work Dispersal limitation, damaged substrate, excess nutrients, altered hydrology, etc mean active intervention is needed to recreate rich ecosystems in a timely way

Enkele gedachten.

Oh FFS. Increases in a few species is not a positive from climate change It is a signal that communities & ecosystems are under threat from rapid change Please, BBC, don’t do this simplistic reporting, feeding complacency about climate breakdown www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Schandalig struisvogelgedrag
