Step Into Vision

Step Into Vision provides a lot for the visionOS community. We have example code and labs. We curate resources, and write articles. We host weekly events for visionOS developers and we help run community projects. If you appreciate the work we do, you can support us here. stepinto.vision/support/

Render layers are a neat tool to have. We can create stark or opinionated lighting rigs with them. The bottom example has two spotlights with wide cones, each targeting a separate layer, allowing me to get the visual effect I was after without the light flowing behind the wall.

Ornaments on Volumes work much like Ornaments on Windows. Volumes have three layers for anchors: front, center, and back. stepinto.vision/example-code...

Did you know you can add an ornament to an ornament in a window? stepinto.vision/labs/lab-073...

Ornaments allow us to decorate our windows with information and controls. We can anchor them around a window, and adjust their alignment to suite the content. stepinto.vision/example-code...

Hey, we're skipping the newsletter this week. We're focusing on a number of projects and putting lots of energy into the new Step Into Vision app for Apple Vision Pro. We'll be back soon. In the meantime, check out this work-in-progress UI.

Still a WIP but I'm happy with code line selection in the article view. We can copy an entire block or just tap and drag over the lines we want to copy.

Lab 114 - Using the Glass Box from Lab 078, we can dynamically show and hide panes based on the user’s viewpoint relative to the volume. stepinto.vision/labs/lab-114...

In lab 078 we use spatialOverlay to wrap any SwiftUI view in glass material panes. Useful for obscuring and unveiling content or providing glass surfaces in a volume. #visionOS #SwiftUI stepinto.vision/labs/lab-078...

Lab 084 with a quick look at the Blurred Background Shader Graph node. This node outputs color value that we can use in other nodes such as mix, multiple, or preview surface. stepinto.vision/labs/lab-084...

Revisit the Feathered Glass Title Card from Lab 083. We slightly animate softEdgeRadius on a 4 second loop stepinto.vision/labs/lab-083...

We've all slapped glassBackgroundEffect on a view and moved on, but this modifier has some features most people don't consider. For example, can use implicit display mode to dynamically add a glass pane when offsetting a view from a parent. stepinto.vision/labs/lab-082...

A reminder that we can use the BlurredBackground shader graph node to create glass materials that fit in with the rest of the visionOS design language. stepinto.vision/labs/lab-085...
