But what happens when AI datacenters are thrown into the energy mix? Is AI a direct threat to energy security and independents, or an opportunity to accelerate new wind, storage & transmission capacity? Maybe it is both of those things, but the consequence of not doing the latter could be dire.

And so this then sounds about right...

Dale Vince@dalevince.com

Here’s some numbers - we have 10% spare capacity on the grid right this winter, by 2030 data centres are estimated to be taking 10% of Britain’s power. That’s our margin - gone, unless we build more, or they do. We’re busy enough getting to 100% green on the grid I reckon.

"Distinctively British" How will Healey's AI funding plan actually translate into reality? The government has already said Britain will need at least 6 GW of AI datacentre capacity by 2030, proposing AI Growth Zones, each supporting at least 500 MW, with at least one eventually exceeding 1 GW.

So it does seem that Dale has a point...

But we do need to do something about data centres - I suggest we make them responsible for the power they need. Rather than just plug in to what we have.

The ‘poison’ of datacenters: "According to the National Energy System Operator (NESO), there were, as of last month, 28 proposals in the consent queue for the grid in Scotland, representing nearly 8.9 gigawatts, a figure around twice Scotland’s current winter peak demand" (The Herald)

"PM Andy Burnham has promised the largest post-war council and social housebuilding programme, including the exemption of new builds from Right to Buy for 35 years" Big news for families needing social housing! But how can Labour stop a future Tory government reversing the Right to Buy exemption?

"This week the government launched its "Be Ready" campaign, advising households to keep non-perishable food... ...You cannot talk seriously about national resilience and food security while watching the infrastructure that produces British food shrink year after year. The contradiction is obvious."

Zack, your urgent priorities... 1) UK ending ALL electricity generated from gas by 2030, 2035 latest. 2) DOUBLING electricity generation and distribution. 3) Replacing every household gas boiler with non-gas equivalent, in 15 years, bringing that forward by training new fitters. My full thread 👇

The UK is forced to produce ⅓ of it's electricity from burning gas. But it should not have to. And politicians are like: No comment!

This is a wholly demand-side problem, Zack! So you would rather the UK imported foreign LNG gas that produces 4.5 time the carbon emissions of Jakdaw? What is your solution? Green-wash taxation, eh Zak? (Clue: it's in your manifesto) And Jackdaw will keep 273 existing jobs.

This simple fact is UK's most urgent energy priority: 30-35% of UK's electricity is generated from burning gas because the National Grid cannot deliver cheap clean wind-generated electricity from Scotland down to London. How come it took so long for politicians to wake up about it?

How long would it take to get every UK household off gas? Optimistically speaking and without obstacles, 15 years. But in the past in might have only taken 10 years...

On top of that, UK households are still burning gas for heating and hot water. Eliminating all of that (hypothically) would actually DOUBLE the entire UK demand for electricity.

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini subscriptions are the tip of the iceberg. What does A.I. really cost us? A.I. datacenters competing for our essential resources, electricity, water; burning more gas, devouring agriculture; driving scarcity and inflation. If A.I. takes your job, how will you pay for it?

If a Labour government bans Right To Buy then the next Tory government will simply reintroduce it, then whoops, another working class community turns blue. That is exactly what happened before. Politicians without an imagination who never learn. And governments that remain tidally locked.

Yet again, we neurodivergent people are mere passengers in the debate and government policy aimed at us. And the media that publishes and broadcasts this stuff never interviews us or ever asks us for our comment.

Two kinds of humans: First kind are those who want to protect children, allow them grow up, learn, love, organize and be the ones responsible. Second kind are those who desire to correct, punish and control children, never wanting them grow up to be the bigger people.

How awful it is, that murderous racists steal religious symbols and use them for their own evil ends. But when so-called progressives on the left take those same articles of faith imbued with sacred meaning and hand them over to those evil doers for their own exclusive use, that is an abomination.

It was indeed a very passionate speech that ticked a lot of boxes for a lot of people who have waited many years to hear it coming from a British Prime Minister. But why was there nothing about climate change? I wasn't expecting much. But there was nothing at all!

Trades unions' warning over Triple Lock: Burnham's Labour government must act quickly to face down the looming crisis of Pensioner poverty, retirees facing rent rises, and the lowest state pension in Europe coupled with occupational pensions not meeting cost-of-living inflation expectations.

Inside the conference hall, Labour Party members fawn over their new leaders and applaud this woman's bravery. While outside, the-same-Labour government, arrests this same pensioner in her 90s for holding a piece of paper, because it passed a law making her a terrorist. This is so fucked up.

See how quickly this Labour politician snaps back with a disgraceful lie, perpetuating the lie that is denying a future to a million young working people and undermining our country's real economy.

“It’s a tricky decision for the prime minister” It should be obvious, right? Politics before climate spells doom.
