A rare trip to the east of the county for the Nutcracker this morning, thought I'd give the Rose-coloured Starling at Happisburgh a go while I was there. No luck, but did get this smart drake Velvet Scoter not too far offshore #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

The Mundesley Nutcracker this morning, first to grace our shores in nearly thirty years. An absolute privilege to watch the sun come up in the presence of such a superstar #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Desert Wheatear on Wells beach yesterday afternoon, with beach hut and sand castle back drop. Only thing missing is a "Kiss Me Quick" hat #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Driving home from the coast this afternoon, when this blonde bombshell ran across the road in front of me. Managed to pull over and get a quick photo as he disappeared into the undergrowth #ukwildlife #mammal

Desert Wheatear on Wells beach this afternoon. Strangely, it seemed to be finding quite a lot of dead bees and wasps on the strand line #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Desert Wheatear on Wells beach this afternoon. As the name suggests, usually found in North Africa and the Arabian peninsula, a few grace our shores with their presence each autumn #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

This Short-eared Owl came flying in off the North Sea at Holme this afternoon, presumably having just flown all the way from Scandinavia. Probably didn't take that long with the strong northerly winds that were blowing today #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Shore Larks on Holme beach. Didn't manage to see any last winter, so pleased to get a good view of three in the howling northerly winds this afternoon #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

To compare and contrast with the Jack Snipe I posted earlier, the much less bobby feeding action of a Common Snipe, at Holme this afternoon #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Bobbing Jack Snipe at Holme this afternoon. Normally a very secretive bird, so very nice to see these two, along with a third, out in the open. Still baffles me what evolutionary advantage they gain from bouncing up and down like that #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Goshawk overhead at Roydon Common this evening. Took me completely by surprise, so didn't exactly get his best side at first. He did have the decency to circle around for a while and let me get some more distant shots #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

One more photo of the unexpected Tawny Owl visit to my garden on Thursday night. Photo taken through my kitchen window on a 1/3 second exposure, so please forgive the blurriness #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea, and was absolutely astonished to see this outside the window! Never had a Tawny Owl in the garden before. Stayed long enough for me to run upstairs and get my camera #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

At least a couple of hundred Redwings flying south over the garden this morning. A few came down to rest in my apple tree, obviously a bit out of puff after spending the night flying across the North Sea #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Watching the incoming Redwings this morning, I was quite surprised to see this squadron of Spoonbills come over. Only the second time I've ever seen any over my garden here on the outskirts of Kings Lynn #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Lapland Bunting, on my fifth attempt at Holme this afternoon. I know it's a rubbish photo, but having trudged along the seawall from Thornham nearly every day this week to take it, I'm going to share it anyway #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Head started Curlew in Thornham Harbour on Thursday evening. According to the recovery project website, this guy was released at Sandringham and spent all last winter at Thornham. My sighting was the first reported since April. I wonder where he spent the summer #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Wall Brown butterflies at Roydon Common this evening. I can't help but think they've left it a bit late in the year for this kind of romantic activity #ukwildlife #butterflies #ukbutterflies
