I also adore 70s / 80s synths and drum machines and have been collecting some over the years... here are a few of my favourite synths. What are your favourite synths that you have?

It was so meditative and reassuringly relaxing. He has this way of making you feel completely empowered to be yourself. I loved every second. We finished the day drinking some lovely cardamom tea and chatting about demurrage currency. Love that man. He’s every bit the genius he is made out to be

But also a delightful person who has a wicked sense of humour and is self deprecating to a fault. I was lucky that he produced a track for me in years to come and also sang some vocals for me on another one. Yeah that’s nuts. Anyway - have a listen to my friend Leo’s solo on “Caught Between” ♥️♥️♥️

I expected a phenomenal setup with the best gear and a clinical recording experience. How wrong can you be! He plugged me into a basic Line 6 Pod and said “Oh I only have a rough bounce of this track but I like it so it’s going on the record.” He hit record before I’d even heard the track.

Inspired by @ronanhession.bsky.social I have reached out to a local Japanese teacher to try and get myself back into shape. My degree course and year in Okayama feel like a long time ago now! My wife and I plan to live in Osaka for a while in the next few years.

OMG - i was chatting with an old family friend last week about My Life in the Bush Of Ghosts. He mentioned the original imprint with Qu’ran on it and I said I didn’t have that one. He said “I think I can help you out there…”

Today I received in the post not only the vinyl of it, but the cassette - AND - a brand new old stock Marantz cassette player from the RAF Panavia Tornado programme.

I am lost for words. No note except one in the tape deck saying “Tested OK. 30 September 2026. DG Horowitz in Moscow.” How can anyone be so generous?

When Jon Hopkins’ album “Ritual” came out in 2024 I really didn’t get it. One tempo and not much variety all the way through. A bit “ordinary” I thought. Cut to how. I am absolutely obsessed with it. I don’t know what changed. It’s that unwavering meditative quality that makes it so good.

Getting told there are 4 unreleased tracks of the Songs In The Key Of Life sessions is like being given the keys to a big beautiful room where everything good in the world lies waiting for you. I’m just so stupidly happily listening to these tracks from this beautiful genius. I adore Stevie ♥️

We dropped my son off to start his second year at Warwick Uni today. Bittersweet, but nowhere near as bad as last year. London traffic on the way home does a great job of grinding you so hard that every possible emotion is denied space in your soul. I will miss him.

I’ve been reading a book by a new author and at one point they identify that the real magic in a guitar player’s feel is all in the *right hand* (for a right handed player of course)… I nearly jumped for joy as I have always thought this and will in fact die on that hill.

Went to see my old pal Roger Eno in concert tonight at Union Chapel. Sublime. In a strange twist I also managed to win his sandals and socks in an audience auction.

Just got my 1980s Citizen “Ana Digi Temp” watch back from the jewellers with a new battery. I have come to a local cafe to trawl through the epic Japanese English instructions on how to reset all the displays and dials 😂

When did Waze get so utterly shit? Diverted via a closed road to a closed motorway FFS. Spent half the fucking night driving down pitch black country lanes. Clueless bastard of a thing - it used to be good, didn’t it? I’d have got home quicker following a map of Middle Earth.

Who *doesn’t* need to go to a games arcade that has classics like “Frenzied Dog Attack”, “Divorce”, “Dead or Bad” and of course “Meat or Pet” A very fun evening at Novelty Automation in London. I love that a place like this can exist in 2026.

I wouldn’t claim to be a diehard Nick Cave fan. I like him and have a few albums. But the gig at Preston Park last night was one of the best I’ve ever seen. A band playing as one being, Nick like a cross between God and the devil, the best outdoor sound imaginable - all shared with my best friends ♥️

I had this guitar made for me in the 90s by Ernie, one of the guys that worked in the Lowden factory. It’s a friend’s son’s 18th today. He’s so into music and he fell in love with it, so today I’ll give it to him so it can have another life. Farewell old friend ♥️

The crew of Artemis II in the Integrity module are a few minutes from interfacing with the earth’s atmosphere at 16000 miles an hour. I’m just sitting watching it eating Frazzles.

I’m doing my studio room up soon, but for now my favourite guitars are hanging up on the outside wall while we build a new internal frame. Which one would you take home?

Keiji Haino was utterly unique. On the challenging side of avant garde for me but memorable and the real deal. Tonight: Indre and Shahzad Ismaily at Crypt Gallery!

David Byrne was absolutely astonishing. Simple as that. Musically, visually, emotionally perfect. So uplifting at a time when we need it most. Tonight, Keiji Haino at the ICA!

#ChurchOfRockAndRoll #69 Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe. The Jimmywebb, all mimsy, came whiffling through the tulgey wood. Rested he by the Tumtum tree and sat a while in thought. Wichita lineman up and away he chortled in his joy.
