One of the benefits of digital audio (CD etc) compared to LP and tape was greater dynamic range but most modern recordings are less dynamic than many old analogue ones. I follow the advice from @ianshepherd.bsky.social and try to maintain the dynamics in my work, especially CD masters. Thoughts?

I’m starting 2025 in different surroundings. We’re having some work done in the room behind my home studio so I have relocated my mixing gear (minus monitors and acoustic treatment) to a bedroom for a week or two. I can make progress with headphones but looking forward to having speakers again

So, Bluesky is my only social media platform now. I’d invested a lot of time in the 3 Meta apps but, like X, the decision to make facts optional doesn’t work for me. One good thing is I don’t have to decide what to post where any longer 🙂

The rain couldn't dampen my enjoyment recording three songs for The Narrowboat Sessions today - warm welcome, fascinating chat, genial host and an amazing technical set up in such a small and unlikely venue. Looking forward to the video in a few weeks time.
