Spent yesterday cutting out and this afternoon painting a scratchplate for probably the last guitar I'm going to have time to build. Happy with the way it came out, which is far from always the case. @vintagesilvertones.bsky.social Now to focus on playing the effing thing.
A small-proportioned miracle has occurred today. I found a movie containing the nowadays Richard E Grant that I'm actually prepared to pay money to view when it's released here at the end of the month. Great trailer too.
Scary Movie Month. I have no memory of being scared by any movie as a child. Perhaps I didn't get to the cinema very much back then, or I've managed to delete the whole experience. π
Night of the Living Dead, which I saw as an adult in the arthouse Electric Cinema on Portobello Rd and afterwards was thoroughly creeped out while walking through quiet streets in the dark on my way to my preferred pub at the time.
I'll have to ask people to indulge a little guitar nerdery for a moment, if you please. I offered @vintagesilvertones.bsky.social and @bobgriffiths20.bsky.social photos of the modified wiring in one of my guitars, and here it be. Normal service will resume shortly.
Been catching up with @solroots.bsky.social and his mightily thumbed guitar work. The whole band is excellent, of course. When the vocal harmonies start it's definitely chicken skin time on my arms.

Good to see my sometimes employer getting some Fender love here. That absolutely *has* to be the QPR stadium.
A close friend just posted some Terry Reid on Facebook and I was immediately smitten. β€οΈ Frustratingly I can't locate the exact clip but this was the first song Reid played and I'll put the second one in the comments. Broadcast as I was arriving in the UK!
What a voice! Same league as Steve Marriott and Paul Rodgers and, for me, there aren't many better than them.
Resurrected a guitar project today that's been sitting abandoned for more than a year. A way forward was suggested by seeing an early Les Paul abomination as shown here by @vintagesilvertones.bsky.social a few months ago. Thanks, buddy. Still a long, long way to go. π§βπ§
I've let slip a few times here that I'm no Queen fan, but this is taking matters a wee bit too far. The short article itself is well worth the effort of clicking on it and also the comments on Mark's original post are hilarious.
As if the headline isn't enough incentive, do read this short news story to the last paragraph because MAN does it escalate! playbill.com/article/man-...
Just noticed that Cassandra Wilson passed a couple of days ago. I read that she was once dubbed 'the best singer in America', which is nonsense of course. Except in the sense of 'best at any particular moment'. I've had many moments over the years when she was the best for me. Amazing voice.
Had to post something live. After Robert Johnson we get a taste of his mentor Son House. Benson's fluid rippling version of the blues is also a pleasure to listen to.

R.I.P. Dolly. This is truly a shock to me as she really seemed utterly timeless. A complete original with a quip and a knowing smile for any occasion.
Having laboured at the coalface of music for around 60 years I'm absolutely in awe of these people. How you can get 120 musicians on stage and still create something so sensuous and full of air and lightness is amazing. Whatever Sting is paying them, they're worth it. πππππ
#AICouldNever does it count as a cover version if someone else is singing but the original singer is also playing? Anyway, this is so good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6scV...
Sometime in the second half of the seventies I read The Way of Zen and, as Cocker relates here, it, and Watts himself, opened a few doors for me. I'm hesitant about applying big labels to myself but I can say without hedging that imperfect Watts has been important to me for many years.
Just finished this excellent book-shaped object by @mealygarage.bsky.social Greatly enjoyed it. Main protagonist was a hoot with a wholly original voice, at least in my experience. Plot zips along nicely with unexpected twists every few pages. Very satisfying indeed πππππ The wait for #2 begins
A Woman Under the Influence Sorry Cassavetes fans. I was 20 at the time. Nothing for me there. Nothing at all. Must have been late night at the Electric Cinema on Portobello after the pubs shut and there were no other options. Took me 5 minutes on Google to find the title I had buried it that deep

Loved the photo above so much that I went looking for the Eric & Ernie show that it came from. Found it! Penelope makes her entrance at 36:30 if you're in a hurry. (And just why are you in so much of a hurry? Slow down.)
