@thejoedante.bsky.social I finally got around to watching you introduce The Fool Killer on TCM. Wow. I can’t believe this film has been neglected for so long. What’s it going to take to get this one on video complete w/a commentary from you? Or more. Maybe Severin or Vinegar Syndrome can release it.

I’m in Bend, Oregon just hours away from seeing Neil Young perform finally after he canceled last year. Or was it the year before? In any case, I can hear him and/or his band do their soundcheck from my hotel room. It should be a memorable show even if my GA tix don’t get me that close to the stage.

It’s sad what happened to Charlie Kirk. At the same time I hope this is a wake up call for the GOP to actually do something about gun violence & pass restrictions on them. Not holding out much hope. They didn’t when Tr*mp got shot. They’ll likely place blame on everyone & everything but the guns.

Damn it! Australia has joined the list of countries putting a hold on shipments to the US due to Tr*mp’s tariffs. I just ordered a bunch of blu-rays from there as well. This asshole is causing so much damage to our country in ways I never thought were possible. The world is punishing us as a result.

I HATE HIM! HE’S MAKING ALL OUR LIVES MISERABLE! IT DOESN’T MATTER WHETHER YOU VOTED FOR HIM OR NOT! WE’RE ALL EFFECTED BY THIS MADMAN’S CHAOTIC ACTIONS ALONG WITH ALL THOSE WHO LET HIM TO GET AWAY WITH THESE THINGS! OUR COUNTRY & OUR DEMOCRACY IS IN EXTREME DANGER! THEY MUST BE STOPPED AT ANY COST!

Despite all the horrible things he & his enablers are doing to us all, the actions being taken by other nations by putting holds on US deliveries due to the madman’s insane tariffs has pushed me over the edge due to my not getting the videos I ordered any time soon (if ever). I hope we can be saved.

While I really dislike the man (and his mustache), the raids on John Bolton’s home & office is horrible and I fear it’s a sign of many invasions to come by Tr*mp & his minions against anyone who dares speak out against him. What will happen between now & the midterms much less ‘28 really scares me.

I’m at my local County Fair waiting to see George Thorogood & The Destroyers play. I’d never pay to see them but since the concert was included with fair admission, I’d check it out. They’ve had some classic songs. This wayward son might even carry on & go see Kansas perform here as well on Sunday.

After watching George Thorogood & The Destroyers play, I have to say that I just might pay to see them again in a non Fair setting. They kicked ass. George is 75 and still has more energy than a lot of people half his age. Even those 3/4 his age. Only bad bit was seeing a guy in a Tr*mp hat there.

I’ve been watching a bluegrass show on PBS called Song of the Mountains. Not a big fan of the genre but if something catches my ear, I’ll tune in. One such group is a family band called Williamson Branch. Their female bassist is very animated. They’re a religious band where the girls married young.

In any case, I went on YouTube to see some videos of Williamson Branch to gauge where on the religious spectrum they fall. Needless to say, there’s some where they’re performing in front of a “God, Guns & Tr*mp” banner. And they have a song called “If God Doesn’t Bless America”. That’s a hard pass.

Just goes to show that not all Public Television programming is geared towards left-leaning progressive people or so Tr*mp & his Republican minions claim. Not when there are shows like Song of the Mountains from Virginia. Yet that’s not stopping this hateful administration from defunding PBS & NPR.

Got around to watching the new Fantastic Four film. First Steps? More like Baby Steps. Glad that we got a decent adaptation of the comic. Had some slight issues with it but overall it was enjoyable. Even the female Silver Surfer was ok. I wonder how the FF gets to the main MCU for Avengers 5 though.

Got done watching a 2021 concert film on my DVR starring Bill Murray called “New Worlds: The Cradle of Civilization” that TCM showed last year. Odd combo of classical music & standards interspersed with spoken word pieces by Murray. The film isn’t on home video, streaming or YouTube. I wonder why?

There’s an album that has highlights from it. Oddly, it didn’t include Bill’s cover of a Tom Waits song that was in the film. At least there’s a clip of it from YouTube. Murray also did a cover of Bruce Hornsby’s “Way It Is”. Neither that nor the rest of the film’s online. youtu.be/pVYxK3h6oVc?...

And there’s the trailer for the film. Still puzzles me why this film isn’t on home video nor on a streaming service. @criterion.bsky.social should put it out. Bill’s cover of Jimmy Durante’s “Did You Ever Have The Feeling” alone makes it worth watching. If that was possible. youtu.be/l94Ky7cYrZg?...

There are two notable people who passed away today. One was a jazz musician popular in the 70s and the other an iconic wrestler named after a comic book superhero. I know which one more people will be mourning today, especially those on the Right. I’ll be honoring the other one. RIP Chuck Mangione.

Damn it! Talk about a first world problem. Bought tix for both nights of Regina Spektor’s tour stop in Portland for this Friday & Saturday. I wasn’t expecting any concert conflicts on either of those nights. Now I see that a fest I wanted to see w/ Iggy Pop & DEVO is on Saturday. What to do?

Glad I didn’t buy tix for the Project Pabst festival. I wanted to see both Iggy & DEVO. Who knows how much time Pop has left which is why I interested in seeing him. Did see a bit of DEVO in SLC but wanted to see their full set. Will try and go to the fest on Sunday for Japanese Breakfast.

After taking a look at the setlist of songs Regina is playing on this tour, most look to be coming from one album (Songs) with a smattering of tracks from Spektor’s other albums. Since the set varies little, I think I can eat the cost of my 2nd ticket & go to the fest to see Iggy Pop & DEVO.

Damn it times two! I missed another music festival I wanted to go to called Hare Fest that’s devoted to tribute bands. It was last weekend (7/17-19). This is what happens when I don’t put these things in my schedule. July has been filled with my making mistakes when it comes to trying to see bands.

Earlier in July I went to a show on the wrong night (Depeche Mode & Bowie tribute bands) only to have it sell out before I got tix. Was gonna see The Church this week only to find their show isn’t until ‘26. I put the wrong year down. Am I going senile? Why were they selling tix so far in advance?

Now the Regina Spektor/Project Pabst scheduling conflict. Leaning towards skipping night 2 of Spektor. I know I have a lot of concerts scheduled for August & September. Gonna have to see what conflicts I might have. Did buy tix to a Sleater-Kinney concert knowing there’s a conflict. Why’d I do that?

RIP Malcolm-Jamal. Talk about a death no one was expecting to happen so soon nor in the way it did.

If a movie or TV studio has material that they have no intention of releasing even though it had been previously shown to the public before, I feel that if someone has access to that stuff, they should be able to put it on YouTube or another video sharing site for the benefit of people everywhere.

This refers to the person who had years of intros & interview segments from Turner Classic Movies (9+ years) that were taken down on YouTube after I mentioned them over at the New Republic feed recently. TCM seems to have no intention of making them available so this person should’ve been able to.

@tcmtv.bsky.social Recently a YouTube channel dedicated to archiving many of your host introductions & interviews over the years (9+) was shut down. I have my suspicions who did it. The channel was doing a huge service for fans. It’d be great if TCM let the channel continue or made them available.

Even though I haven’t regularly watched the show for quite some time The Colbert Show was the only program on CBS that I even bothered to watch. Now that it’s being canceled under suspicious circumstances, there’s absolutely nothing worthwhile on the network. Sorry, “Ghosts”.

@newrepublic.com Can’t say for sure it was NR but it seems too coincidental that shortly after I recommended a YouTube channel dedicated to archiving TCM segments on a post about your political films list, it was taken down. For years they were doing fans a great service. Now it’s gone. Your doing?

I’m still thinking about my possibly being responsible for getting a guy kicked off of YouTube who had a channel devoted to TCM host intros & interviews because I recommended it in a reply I made to The New Republic. NR or someone read it & maybe reported them. A huge invaluable archive is now gone.

The person’s YouTube disappearing a week or so ago after I recommended it on The New Republic’s feed seems a little too coincidental. Maybe they were reported for violating copyrights? 9+ years of TCM segments gone. Where was the harm in letting the person keep them up? TCM weren’t archiving them.

Watched a depressing 2018 doc called “American Chaos” that followed the filmmaker as he crossed the US before the ‘16 election to see why so many of people were voting for Tr*mp. Their reasons for backing him were based on dis/misinformation & lies that fed on their fears. Sadly it worked. TWICE!!!

I do feel a bit bad for director James Stern because he too was duped. Initially he’s worried that Tr*mp will win while talking to supporters. Then he’s convinced Donald’s going to lose after his Pussy comments. Stern foolishly thinks there’s no way Don could come back from that. How wrong he was.

We need a follow-up documentary that focuses on the aftermath of Tr*mp’s first term along with what caused so many people to seemingly get amnesia and forget the damage he did to the country & why they chose him again. That dis/misinformation is sure to play a large part if it ever does get made.

Was watching some TCM. Went to a channel on YouTube run by someone who has recorded most of the host segments for years. Saw it was taken down. Week or so ago I posted on the @newrepublic.com feed about a series they’d done for TCM & recommended this channel. Was the guy busted because I did that?

The channel was up just a few days ago so it going away so suddenly came as a shock. I hope I didn’t in some way contribute to it being taken down, temporarily or permanently, because I drew attention to it. The person running it did so for a long time. Now that archive of TCM segments is gone.

Watched a movie on the Silk Road guy. Not that good. Depressing to know that since the film came out in 2021 that Ross Ulbricht has been pardoned by Tr*mp despite all the crimes he committed. I guess if another better film is made about Ulbrecht’s life, they’ll have to update it.

when I started collecting comics as a kid, I grew up knowing the name Jim Shooter. I didn’t know about the bad reputation Jim had among those he worked with. I just knew that his name appeared in all the Marvel comics I read. I was lucky enough to see him at the last NY Comic Con I attended. RIP.

Legendary Marvel Comics editor and Secret Wars creator Jim Shooter dies at 73.

Watched a movie on TCM called The Treasure of Pancho Villa (not on home video). The Coca Cola sign got my attention. Did a bit of research & found out why. The 1955 film takes place in 1915 Mexico & Coke (the drinking kind) didn’t come to the country until the twenties. Error or product placement?

Then the sign disappears seconds later. That or the camera angle hid it. Not a great movie but it was still enjoyable. Shame the film isn’t on home video. It’s not even on YouTube. Hope TCM airs it again sooner rather than later. They need to have a weekly show dedicated to films not on video.
