Harasser of parkers in the SF bike lanes. Supporter of leftie causes and unions. Wonderer of why co-ops aren't still a thing. Also a teeny tech CEO. "Less Than Zero is a Christmas Movie"

There are valid arguments against the specifics of the tax. But my attitude is 'let's poke them and see what happens'.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

New SEC filings show that Mark Zuckerberg is preparing to pay California’s billionaire tax without losing control of Meta. So billionaires can afford to pay the tax? And they won't lose control of their companies or flee the state? Don’t fall for billionaires’ propaganda. Vote YES on Prop 40.

What an adorable scandal.

“I can verify that Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, having been inducted in 2002 at the University of Minnesota,” Amber Cox, associate secretary and chief operating officer of Phi Beta Kappa, said in a statement.

I wish tech bros would read a goddamn book or have any familiarity with history. People were excited about cars. They thought cars were f'ing cool. They wanted one. THAT'S HOW FORD GOT RICH.

Pleading costs me more emotionally than yelling. But I'm not gonna yell at the postal service dude, even if he did park in the bike lane at night.

I'm the annoying dude who just came back from the Netherlands to tell you about bike infrastructure. I think our suburbs have more to learn than our cities. They still have the space to make some easy, cheap decisions about bollards, spacing and slowing drivers down.

I just don't find Shane Gillis funny. It's not like I just hate problematic white men. I loved Woody Allen and Louis C.K. And let's be honest, the signs were there. Just don't get how Gillis is funny.

"Have you decided who you're voting for for Senator?" Me, glancing at the fading Scott Wiener sign I've had up for months. "I dunno. Who's running?"

Dream: "Self driving cars will have to make split second moral decisions!" Reality: Too fucking stupid to get out of the trash truck's way. It sat there until a remote operator grabbed it and moved it.

Even if you're not a local ya gotta read this.

Walter Wong was San Francisco's biggest fixer. His 95K square foot former HQ was bought by adult film company Kink.com These are not squeamish people. When they saw what as in here, they called the FBI. Latest column from @esksf.bsky.social missionlocal.org/2026/09/walt...

Oh cool! Wait, Dreamforce. So was it residents trying to get out of SF?

BART@bart.gov

Big news! Yesterday was BART's highest ridership day since the pandemic! We carried 242,090 trips Tuesday, the first day of Dreamforce as well as All Aboard Transit Day, the day when transit agencies encourage people to ride and experience recent service and customer experience improvements.

I've started thinking of LLM tools as a really advanced scripting language. It's kind of working for me. Every place I'm running into them, professionally and such, it maps nicely.

The major maps do this for all sorts of countries all the time, so it's not that big a surprise. But if Google catches a few strays over this, fine with me.

Mother Jones@motherjones.com

If you’re a Google Map user in the United States, you’ll now see the name “Lake America” instead of “Lake Ontario,” just days after Trump’s executive order renaming the body of water amid his ongoing trade war with Canada.

LLMs are very good at pulling engineers down the rabbit hole. I feel bad for managers who don't understand their systems well enough to pull them back out.

This picture is triggering. I've spent many days in a chair like that (it's for observers) staring at the backs of voters.

BREAKING NYT: A month after the Trump admin declared without evidence that thousands of noncitizens had illegally registered to vote in Nevada, DHS officials were unable to substantiate the claim — finding just 185 potential anomalies, not the 16,000 claimed last month.

A thing that gives me pause about AI is when you search for something specific and technical about the technology it's surrounded by a barrage of noisy nonsense. That's odd.

The data center opposition is fascinating. My attitude, as someone in tech, is sort of anti-data center. There's lots of stuff good about the internet, but we're living in the internet's world now and it kinda sucks. So why not. Stop building data centers. Let's try that.

Let's keep taking away streets until they give up.

A proposal to reopen S.F.'s Great Highway, now home to Sunset Dunes Park, to cars on weekdays has qualified for the November election. This will be the 3rd time in 4 years that San Franciscans have voted on whether to allow cars on the highway. @sfchronicle.com www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/g...

I mean, ya gotta justify it to the funding agencies with words like "studying ocean habitats" but we all know this deserves funding because it's objectively awesome.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

With a flap of its wings, something resembling a bird dives into the water, swims around and soars back into the skies. But it’s not a bird, it’s a robot — and it could be a big help in studying ocean habitats, researchers said. nyti.ms/4wJfkDX

I often get an error when I try to use some random AI add-in. It might be an extension of my power over skateboarders. No skateboarder can land a trick in my presence. I've never seen one succeed in person and suspect I never will.

This doesn't happen when we nominate women. <remembers Kristen Sinema> Goddamnit.

Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, said he was taking time to “reflect” after a woman accused him of sexual assault in a report published on Monday. Platner called the allegation “false.”

It's wild to me how anti-historical people are. "If Ford had asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse." Yeah, no. There were cars around, but they were expensive. Ford was one of a number trying to make them cheaper. He was just successful at it.

A rent freeze on rent control units is a pretty mundane technocratic solution.... which means a lot to the people affected, of course. But it's relatively small. Nonetheless, they made the promise, delivered on it and are now making a big deal about it. Brilliant.

Serving up a rent freeze.

Sat next to a couple of AI employees at dinner. I wanted to give them advice they wouldn't listen to. "Save most of your windfall. This probably won't happen again for you." "If you need a next job, it won't net you as much. Get used to that idea now." "If you can't keep up, make cheaper friends."
