A bit late with the 2025 #NotebookAnnual this time. Anyway, here are a few from my #Sketchbook from across the year. My only new bird, was the fantastic Pechora Pipit at South Shields. What will 2026 bring... #birdart #Northumberland ##FieldNotes #Sketchbooks

Dungeness: A Leech’s Petrel came past the fishing boats relatively close this morning. It afforded excellent telescope views though camera views were not so good.

A grey phalarope was found in the back car park at Samphire Hoe this afternoon. It was rescued from some unwanted magpie attention and was safely released, it flew off strongly. #kentbirding

Nutcracker. Parking is horrendous and no sense is being exercise by most. A few people going where they shouldn’t. You can park a sensible distance away and walk as bird showing extremely well. A bike was very useful! #ukbirding

The magical 23rd strikes again! This Dusky Thrush pitched up on dyke about 4ft from me and gave me a bit of a shock! What a stonking bird! Not a bad birthday present either! #OrkneyBirding

Pretty amazing to see an Eagle Owl within a mile of home on Thursday evening. No sign of jessies when it flew. Likely the one seen at New Holland recently. Saw it with a prey item, blurry pic but maybe a Jackdaw?

I'd love to see a Rubythroat in Northumberland... can't find any pics of the Spurn bird so here's one in my hand, China 2008...

Pic by @whitburnbirds.bsky.social of the Whitburn Paddyfield Warbler. A bit more cooperative this a.m. - albeit for a short time only - than yesterday. A bloody brilliant bird though, and only the second I've ever seen. It's been quite good 'on patch' this week 😃.

Right, where are all these Nutcrackers were supposed to be getting? It's like the near annual Pine Grosbeak invasion... #UKBirding

Must say a big thank you to @jamiepartridge.bsky.social and all the birders on St Agnes and especially to Paul Clarke on St Marys and to Dave Jackson and the gang at the Peninnis allotments Wryneck twitch for letting me piggy-back on to their viewing arrangements with Paul. #TeamMoth are the best!

Setting out for a dog walk just after 4pm, i didn’t expect that going through autopilot motion to kick something out rank grass would give anything, let alone this! CHESTNUT BUNTING. Massive thanks to team effort- DC, MGP, RF helping pin down and nail ID, against the clock before sundown! 1/2

I drew it for the monthly bulletin at the time... Isabelline Shrike, Whitley Bay can't remember the year must be 20 yrs ago? #Penandink #birdart #Northumberland

Any info on what (sub)species that one was?

Busy time for Hobbies. This male has taken a leaf from the Merlin playbook and sits quietly in the stubble to hunt the the Linnet flock from ground level. #BirdArt

Good to see active migration on Barra today with Barnacle Geese and Whooper Swans on the move, hundreds of Icelandic Redwings arriving, at least 5 Yellow-browed Warblers around the island and the Blackpoll Warbler present for a second day at Glen giving us great views. #BirdingScotland #RareBirdsUK

Seen 3 Lesser Grey Shrikes at the Long Nanny, 2008, 2013 and 2016, the last one was a colour ringed bird from a captive breeding/release project in Spain. Is it the best site for Lesser Grey Shrike in Northumberland ? Only ever had 2 patch Great Grey Shrikes (+1 was at the Nanny too !). #NEbirding

Buff breasted Sand at Longhoughton Steel this afternoon. Pity I've just missed Wildlife Photographer of the Year. #UKBirding #Northumberland

Safe to say, just like the Spanish Inquisition, I wasn't expecting this..... Nonchalant dander around the patch wi missus & dogs at weekend, out pops the 1st Angus & only 3rd (I think) Scottish mainland Isabelline Wheatear. Had worse dog walks likes. Fuckin 'ave it you slags.......😉😂

The Lapland Bunting at Longhoughton Steel showed well this morning. No sooner had we left after putting a full morning in, a Buff breasted Sandpiper turns up! #Northumberland #UKBirding

Aurora from our village tonight. Of course it didn't look like this, the phone settings does that, but red and pillars could be seen. More like the 2nd pic. #Aurora #Northumberland

Over 10 years since this White's Thrush caused a bit of a stir in #Northumberland. I was the last man to the party just before dusk and the tide ended the show. What a relief after a white knuckle drive up the A1... #UKBirding #RarebirdsUK

An exhilarating seawatch this morning on North Ronaldsay with a Fea’s/Desertas type petrel passing the hide! Also 127 Sooty Shearwaters mostly passing at close range and a Slavonian Grebe #OrkneyBirding
