NYT burying the lede on this one - the reason it failed was because of the voter ID provisions added to it. Only in paragraph 3 does the story acknowledge it was doomed to fail Democrats Block Stock-Trading Bill, Denying the G.O.P. a Pre-Midterm Win www.nytimes.com/2026/09/30/u...

nytimes.comDemocrats Block Stock-Trading Bill, Denying the G.O.P. a Pre-Midterm Win (Gift Article)A Republican measure to limit, but not bar, congressional stock trading faltered in the Senate as Democrats thwarted a G.O.P. bid to show progress on an issue that has rankled voters.

Elections with any number of undecideds make the "margin" between candidates a bad metric, because there is nonzero uncertainty in how undecideds vote Elections with more undecideds (and/or many candidates polling highly) increase likelihood of an unexpected outcome, if you only consider "margin"

My email to my representative, feel free to use this as a template Representative, I write to you today, Easter Sunday, to express my deepest concern for the mental stability of the President. Specifically, I refer to his social media post from this morning

If any Democratic President had posted this, there would be hearings tomorrow. You and your other representatives still have a responsibility to your constituents and to your country. These are not the musings of a man in control of his emotions nor mental faculties.

At the very least, you and the leaders of Congress must talk to him and assess his stability. At most, treat him as you would any other President and begin impeachment actions or use the 25th amendment and remove him from office. If this is left unchecked he may well kill us all.

that was so shocking, disturbing, and unstable that my immediate thought is there is no way it is real. The President, the leader of the country and party, said this: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!

Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah” How is this acceptable? If my father posted something like this I would take his phone away and have a long talk with him. This is the President of the United States!

After the tariff decision from SCOTUS, I thought Orange Julius was being hyperbolic when he said “I can destroy the country” I didn’t think he was actually planning on doing it, but here we are

IANAL but I had a thought. Can a state use asset forfeiture law to seize the assets of a government official who is using their position to blatantly steal money? It would be hilarious for these grifters to have their assets seized and then they have to prove they weren’t obtained illegally

I’m not a conspiracy theory person, but… If someone has the ability to drive the stock market down on a predetermined date And that same person has wealthy friends and relatives that can buy futures contracts on the stock markets And that same someone is immune from prosecution Would they do it?

Bueller…The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression.

As a subscriber I’m not sure why the NYT is so bent on framing almost anything in negative terms for President Biden. Here the graph doesn’t even match the headline when you look at the trend for this year. Trump leads in overall number of small voters by 100k www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

nytimes.comTrump Leads Biden in Number of Small DonorsFormer President Donald J. Trump dominated fund-raising last year by at least one critical measure: his number of small donors.
