Who left all this garbage out here? This is perfectly good trash. Hiking fan & solo game dev. Nothing I post uses any AI Check out the devlog for my upcoming game, Poisoned Gravity! https://sumac.neocities.org/

Turns out this slaps! Gotta trim some of the cruft off the sound, but it's great at picking up outdoor ambience, the sound of trains going by at night, footsteps, fridge doors closing, whatever. It's a little more work to make my own sounds, but it feels better than combing through sound libraries

got a university surplus Tascam for like, nothing today. Excited to make my own game audio now, the test recordings I've done are better quality than a lot of the free audio libraries! I wonder how it does with stuff like nighttime desert ambience, or forest ambience.

flying the rat maps at half mast today His maps were so much fun, he was the first game dev of any kind I learned the handle of as a kid.

Richard B. Gray - LEVELORD 11/15/1957 - 10/12/2026 Just heard the news that an old friend of mine has passed on. Richard Gray - aka Levelord has departed the planet. I know he's dealt with cancer on and off for awhile now, a word that I cannot stand. Word comes from his wife Olga.

Really digging Galactic Racer, but it is making me wonder if anyone's managed to make a Lumen GI game that doesn't have lumen noise. I know there's a lot of devs sharing their particular recipes to minimize it, but even AAA games still seem to be unable to eliminate it.

For non-gamedev people - if you're modeling by hand, you have to really be fucking up for basic objects to come in far above 20k polygons. You can maaaaybe get to like 200k for a complex mesh, if you're working on high-end assets, but even when I go all-out I struggle to blow past 10k triangles.

Also saw a weird bug that looked like a partially-pupated tiger moth or something similar. It had two useless little wings, and legs along the front of its body, but it wasn't really great at moving.

I feel kind of bad for making a "prop of the week" section on my webpage and then proceeding to spend 2 months working on level geometry that doesn't really fit in with the theme of a "prop"

wife and I doing some dark souls coop mod, and I love that fromsoft just gives you the zweihander immediately after the tutorial

One of the most-important things I've learned doing solo gamedev is to keep a planner or something where you can write down ideas for future games. It's partially so I can keep track of the ideas before I forget them, but mostly it's so I can exorcise them and get back to my current project.

my greatest enemy continues to be me from a month ago, deciding to put off doing PBR layers on all my textures until later

I am just accumulating a big list of video games I want to make "some day" Half-life but nothing goes wrong and you just have a job with meters and an apartment and a boss Space game but you're a flight attendant SimCopter

I'll probably need to uproot most of these and replant them into their own things, but the basil seedlings are sprouting already!

Well I've fixed the worst graphical bugs, getting some performance issues now though I am pretty sure I know how to fix them. I will hopefully put the source code up soon, I don't know if it's polite to just fork it though!

Right now the texel density is too high for Poisoned Gravity, but here's my guy! Made him about a year ago for a more-realistic game where you can talk to him and feed him pizza just like IRL In poisoned gravity there's a whole colony of these guys, stowaways on a decade-long journey #rat #lowpoly

I have a fully rigged and animated rat model (and a mouse) that I made for my other game, and i'm planning to make central to my space game, Poisoned Gravity so maybe I should just go ahead and retexture it this weekend to match the style of the new game so I can have a little rat to post

And here's the pocket mouse! For scale, the rat's body is around 25cm long not including tail, but the Desert Pocket Mouse here is a mere 7cm (with a 10cm tail!) You see them all over the deserts at night when stargazing and they're super cute (from a distance, they have diseases) #lowpoly

Got the rough idea for the hallways set up in Blender. Still need to finalize the layout, build some cutouts for sparse greebling, and figure out what I want to do about corners. Drawing some inspiration from Alien obvs, Event Horizon, TNG, and my pediatrician from when I was 8.

cool blender tips and tricks: 1 - Use shift-tilde for a first-person camera mode. Hit tab for collision and you can test out level layouts without exporting to an engine! 2 - Add 2-3mg thc to some tea so you don't feel high but do lose track of time and shrimp for 4 hours and hurt your hips. #tip

Sometimes with blender you spend like two hours with a calculator trying to rotate part of a mesh just right to join with another mesh, then you realize you can just build new geometry for the joint and it takes like 5 seconds.

every home cook has two sets of knives, the good ones you hang on the wall that cut like a dream, and the horrible shitter's knives you run through the dishwasher and don't want houseguests to know about.

Dwarf Fortress 53.16 is up. Another quality of life patch, this also fixes up some issues like invisible divine items and the one where a dwarf ordering a drink at a tavern with multiple staff would be served a drink by every staff member, sometimes resulting in acute alcohol poisoning.

office supplies in microgravity mysterious pens... who can say what brand they are at this texture resolution. Modeled this after the shitty velcro setups they have on the ISS

Just got a new keyboard and typing on it sounds like rain on the roof. Something I definitely miss living in socal for the last 7 years.
