Day15 Yūshō bout! Yz Ōnosato 11-3 (L) Oz Aonishiki 11-3 (R) This is it! Can Ao take two yūshō in a row? May depend on which Ōnosato shows up today, can he bounce back from his loss yesterday and take his first yūshō in a year? #akibasho202

Day15 Ōnosato's stablemaster, former Kisenosato, was 1st Japanese yokozuna in many a year. His ascendancy was cut short by serious injury soon after - he must be proud to see his protege achieving success. Always been one to mask his feelings, he didn't crack a smile until out of sight of audience

Day15 SPOILER I admit it, I was rooting for Ao, but then I saw Ōnosato overcome with emotion during Kimi Ga Yo, Japan's national anthem, and I realized what a relief it is for him and for sumo to have a yokozuna who can deliver. Does sumo deliver?! Everbody say "hai!" 🤗

Day15 Oz Kirishima 7-7 (L) Oz Kotozakura 9-5 (R) These two have their struggles but both deserve the ōzeki mantle! Kinda got root for Kiri cuz he needs that KK to avoid kadoban (so many things that start with K are important in this bout 🤗) #akibasho2026

Day15 M3 Churanoumi 9-5 (L) Km Daieishō 5-9 (R) After losing first straight six bouts to Chura, Daieishō has won their last three straight bouts. Chura can get a Fighting Spirit award with a win here #akibasho2026

Day15 M2 Takayasu 7-7 (L) M4 Fujiryōga 7-7 (R) KK make or break battle between both behemoths! (See that alliteration? 🤗) Yasu loves that kachiage eh? Fwiw Yasu gets a Fighting Spirit prize with a win here IF Ōnosato takes the yūshō later today #akibasho2026

Day15 M6 Asanoyama 10-4 (L) M2 Yoshinofuji 8-6 (R) Asanoyama has proven he’s got the goods for this level - he can get a Fighting Spirit award with a win here. Yoshi is a new up n comer who already had a sanyaku appearance last basho after only four basho in makuuchi #akibasho2026

Day15 M10 Ōhō 6-8 (L) M15 Tokihayate 8-6 (R) For Ōhō, a 7-8 is a lot better than a 6-9 for next banzuke - sometimes you’ll even get the same rank if the banzuke math works out in your favor #akibasho2026

Sanshō announced OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE Takayasu (his 5th) *If Yasu wins AND Ōnosato takes yūshō FIGHTING SPIRIT Fujinokawa (2nd) Churanoumi (2nd)* Asanoyama (4th)* Toshinofuji (1st)* *If they win today TECHNIQUE No awardees

Day15 SPOILER Playoff round 2 J6 Kitanowaka 11-4 (L) J12 Kayō 10-4 (R) Kitanowaka beat Kagayaki in regular bout, then in playoff first bout. If he beats Kayō he takes yūshō, if Kayō wins Kayō faces Kaga again. Look on face of winner is best part of this rather ho-hum playoff #akibasho2026

Day15 SPOILER Playoff round 1 J6 Kitanowaka 11-4 (L) J11 Kagayaki 11-4 (R) Kita beat Kaga earlier to set this up. Lot was taken, these two face off first. Winner of this one goes on to face Kayō #akibasho2026

Day15 J3 Tamawashi 10-4 (L) J12 Kayō 10-4 (R) SPOILER - this bout is important now that Kagayaki lost the earlier bout - the winner here goes on to face Kaga and Kitanowaka in a 3 man playoff (tomoe-sen) #akibasho2026

Day15 J4 Kazeken’ō 8-6 (L) J7 Midorifuji 6-8 (R) Big bullies didn’t give Midori much trouble in school I bet 🤗. I like Kazeken’ō but Midori will do better ending on a 7-8 #akibasho2026

Day15 J6 Kitanowaka 10-4 (L) J11 Kagayaki 11-3 (R) Can Kaga do it? With a win here, he takes jūryō yūshō - if Kitanowaka wins we get a 3 man playoff between Kaga, Kita and whoever wins the later Tamawashi Kayō bout #akibasho2026

Day15 preview Ono made math easy Final bout of day (musubi no ichiban), whoever wins the Ōnosato vs Aonishiki bout takes yūshō. In jūryō if Kagayaki beats Kitanowaka, Kaga takes yūshō, if he loses we get a 3 man playoff (tomoe-sen) between Kaga, Kita and whoever wins Tamawashi and Kayo's later bout

Day14 Yz Ōnosato 11-2 (L) Oz Kotozakura 8-5 (R) Allright, if Ōnosato wins here he goes into the final day with a one win lead, SPOILER if he loses he goes even with Aonishiki who he is SURE to face-off with in the final bout tomorrow #akibasho2026

Day14 Oz Kirishima 7-6 (L) Oz Aonishiki 10-3 (R) Ōzeki battle - it’s up to Ao to force Ōnosato to win his own bout to stay one ahead. But Kiri really needs that KK to avoid kadoban next basho #akibasho2026

Day14 M6 Asanoyama 10-3 (L) Sw Fujinokawa 9-4 (R) With a win here Asa stays in shooting distance of yūshō - he handled Fujinokawa’s scrappiness well last basho and beat him when they faced off #akibasho2026

Day14 M7 Nishikifuji 6-7 (L) M1 Kotoeihō 4-9 (R) An 11-4 at M7 last basho got Kotoeihō a bit too high in the ranks than he was ready for, but no doubt he’ll be a regular at this level before long #akibasho2026

Day14 M2 Takayasu 6-7 (L) M3 Churanoumi 9-4 (R) Yasu somehow stays perennially competitive, few have bounced in and out of sanyaku more. Chura could get double digit wins for first time since Aki 2024 #akibasho2026

Day14 M13 Abi 7-6 (L) M9 Shishi 6-7 (R) How can you not be endeared to that bumbling “which way did he go” looking sumo that still gets Shishi KK most basho? 🤗 #akibasho2026

Day14 M9 Ura 9-4 (L) M13 Asakōryū 8-5 (R) How could this matchup not be good? Ura likely ain’t going in low for this one, but the magic is there! Watch the feet at the end #akibasho2026

Day14 M10 Ōhō 5-8 (L) M14 Chiyoshōma 4-9 (R) There used to be a slew of Chiyo’s (Kokonoe-beya) in the two upper divisions but it’s been only late bloomer Chiyoshōma for some time now #akibasho2026

Day14 J2 Daiseizan 8-5 (L) M15 Asasuiryū 6-7 (R) Another long standoff, video starts midbout. Watch right at end how winner appears to lose grip/balance and then recovers for the win #akibasho2026
