"High creatinine means kidney damage" skips a key detail: muscle mass affects creatinine too. eGFR estimates kidney filtration; it does not directly measure it.

A validation study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that combining creatinine with cystatin C, another blood marker, estimated kidney filtration more accurately than either alone.

UACR, the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, checks for protein leakage that eGFR can miss. Persistent abnormalities carry more weight than one result. Worth bookmarking for the next time this comes up at the gym.

Reading about muscle loss after 50, we keep coming back to protein intake, leucine (a muscle-building signal) and whether strength holds steady over time. What do you see in your own numbers?

After 40, what happens to the effort you can sustain? Lactate threshold and critical power track endurance capacity, adding a functional perspective to biological age.

A higher threshold signals better endurance, not a proven reduction in biological age. Lactate threshold and critical power also aren't interchangeable: a change in one doesn't guarantee the same change in the other.

After 40, what happens to the effort you can sustain? Lactate threshold and critical power track endurance capacity, adding a functional perspective to biological age.

Lactate threshold marks the effort where blood lactate starts a sustained rise. Critical power estimates the boundary above which the body's metabolic response to exercise cannot stabilize. They measure different limits.

Endurance training and harder intervals can raise sustainable pace or power. Sleep supports recovery, while adequate carbohydrate fuels demanding sessions.

Faster logging is the strongest case for AI food scanners: a photo can miss cooking oil and misjudge portions. Does this match what you have seen?

The walk to the shops calls on muscles, balance and coordination at once. Your usual walking speed, visible in Apple Health, is a strong non-lab marker of physical aging.

Compare several weeks of walks on similar terrain. Hills, crowds and carrying bags can change the numbers; a slower reading doesn't mean your biological age just increased.

Fasting glucose or HbA1c at your next checkup? CGM adds another option. The best fit depends on the question: fasting levels, average exposure or daily patterns. #hba1c #cgm

CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) tracks glucose in fluid under the skin. It's useful for exploring patterns around meals, sleep and exercise, though sensor readings can lag behind blood glucose.

These offer three windows on glucose regulation, but none directly measures metabolic age. Feel free to pass this on to the friend who keeps asking which one matters.

Fasting glucose or HbA1c at your next checkup? CGM adds another option. The best fit depends on the question: fasting levels, average exposure or daily patterns. #hba1c #cgm

Fasting glucose measures blood sugar after at least 8 hours without food, useful for assessing fasting levels. HbA1c estimates average blood sugar over roughly 3 months, useful for seeing sustained exposure beyond a single test.

5 apps can read the same Apple Watch data and report very different things. A recovery score and a biological age estimate are outputs of different models. #applewatch

AutoSleep tracks sleep duration and consistency over time and shares records through Apple Health. Other apps can read those records without another wearable.

Wearable age estimates offer continuity: a view of how the score changes over weeks and months. That estimate does not replace a blood test or an epigenetic test, which examines chemical marks on DNA.

The belief that only flagged blood results matter overlooks useful context in RDW (red-cell size variation), MCV (average red-cell size), lymphocyte % and ferritin.

Large cohort studies consistently link higher RDW with higher mortality, including among people without anemia. RDW, MCV and lymphocyte % (the share of white cells that are lymphocytes) feature in PhenoAge, a research age estimate.

These are associations, not proof that changing a number slows aging. Ferritin reflects iron stores but also rises with inflammation. If this changed how you think about it, keep it somewhere you will see it again.

Months of work stress can spill into quiet weekends; chronic stress is also linked to faster biological aging. What has helped you feel able to switch off again? Reply with what worked, or what did not.

How much of a biological-age shift reflects perimenopause? FSH, estradiol and AMH track ovarian aging, offering context rather than a whole-body age score.

One normal FSH result cannot rule out perimenopause: levels fluctuate. An AMH result cannot pinpoint the final period, and none of these hormones alone measures biological age.

Observational studies link earlier menopause with faster aging on DNA-based clocks; FSH is not itself an age clock. If you have a recent blood test, SuperAge can read this marker from the PDF.

How much of a biological-age shift reflects perimenopause? FSH, estradiol and AMH track ovarian aging, offering context rather than a whole-body age score.

FSH signals ovarian follicles, the sacs containing eggs, to grow. Estradiol is an estrogen; AMH comes from small growing follicles and helps estimate the remaining egg supply. Reference ranges depend on age, cycle stage and test method.

Declining ovarian reserve generally lowers AMH and raises FSH; estradiol can swing widely. Eating too little to match training demands can also lower estradiol, through a different mechanism from perimenopause.

For biological age, strength versus cardio is a false choice: combining them supports both muscle strength and aerobic fitness. If you disagree, we would like to hear the strongest version of the other side.

6 hours in bed nightly led to mounting attention lapses in a controlled trial. Apple Watch's Deep minutes estimate time in slow-wave sleep. #sleepscience

Across weeks, read Deep minutes alongside total sleep and bedtime consistency. A high Deep reading after several short nights doesn't mean the sleep debt is cleared.

In that trial, reported sleepiness changed little after an initial rise, while attention kept slipping. If you want to see how this moves for you over time, SuperAge does that from Apple Health.

Keto cuts carbs to produce ketones, an alternative fuel; Paleo excludes grains, legumes and dairy. Both are studied for weight loss. Paleo has some encouraging mortality findings in cohorts, but its longevity evidence is less established than Mediterranean's.

Weight loss and better blood sugar do not establish that Keto or Paleo extends life. This is the comparison we wish we had found five years ago.

Mediterranean eating centres on vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, olive oil and fish. Large cohort studies link it with lower mortality, making it the best-supported option when long-term outcomes matter. Those links do not prove it extends life.

We compared recovery apps by the decision they help with: today's training effort, pacing across a week, or understanding sleep. A bigger dashboard isn't automatically more useful. #applewatch #hrv

Sleep context means more than total hours: consistent timing and awakenings can help explain a dip in recovery that a daily score alone leaves unclear.

A useful app shows which inputs changed: heart rate variability (HRV), resting pulse, sleep or workout load. That makes a recovery score easier to interpret.

"More vitamin D and B12 means a younger biological age" sounds plausible, but meeting nutrient needs and proving an anti-aging benefit are different things.

In a VITAL randomized-trial substudy, vitamin D reduced shortening of telomeres, the protective DNA end caps. Promising evidence for one aging marker, but it doesn't establish a drop in overall biological age.

B12 supports nerves and red blood cell formation, and absorption can decline with age. Adequate D and B12 matter; higher levels alone aren't evidence of slower aging. Save this for the next time someone repeats the myth.

Has your sense of thirst changed as you've gotten older? Blood sodium reflects water balance, but a single result can't show how hydration habits shift with age. Genuinely curious what people here have noticed.
