What luck - a newly refurbished Railjet set for the ride to Villach! Here's the fresh look of First Class, in a similar style to the new-build Railjet 2 sets, despite a few differences. Not bad! 😁

A pair of Taurus locomotives this evening on the ÖBB InterCity over to Velden am Wörthersee. I get a private four seat Business Class compartment for this 11 minute journey - not bad really! 😅

Heading through to Villach now, on the MICOTRA service through the alps! This smart looking high-speed locomotive is registered to a company known as "I-FUC". 🥴

NEW VIDEO! Trying Northern Europe's FASTEST commuter train, Sweden's 200km/h X80 made in China! Join me on Västtrafik for a fast trip out of Gothenburg to see if this controversial new fleet deserves the hype! WATCH: youtu.be/-yLdRZP1vXc

Another one of these horrible Hitachi units for me, this time over to Udine, on a Trenitalia 6 car variant. Sadly it has a similar poorly thought out interior! 😭

After enduring a horrible regional train yesterday, today I decided to take the EuroCity Pendolino to Venice. No problems with sloppy design or window views here! 😁🇮🇹

A train for people who hate to look outside! 👀 Almost every bay is misaligned with the windows, and even some of the seats that DO feature a window will have you staring at a divider..

One of the ugliest trains in the world? This afternoon, I'm catching a Trenord ETR.421 unit out of Milan - with a garish colour scheme and a bizarre shape! What were they thinking? 😂

With one loco taken off at the border and two more added, we're running through to Milan, pulled by these Arenaways locomotives. Final arrival is 68 minutes late. Not as bad as I was expecting!

One of the classic seated carriages on the European Sleeper to Milan. This is an old German InterRegio carriage, with what looks like its original interior, and NS signage! 👀

And good morning from Switzerland on the European Sleeper. We're now running "only" around 1 hour late, and there's an incredible sunrise over the Alps to enjoy from my opening windows.... 😍

Heading through Liege and Köln before heading south on this severely delayed train... And another problem, my compartment doesn't have a working lock. So much for on-board safety! 🙄

At last, the European Sleeper arrives from the sidings, some two hours after it should have departed. It's a Comfort Standard room for me tonight, a Couchette room with an added thick mattress. But we're not going to be leaving yet, as there are MORE delays ahead... 😭

Standing in Brussels-South, awaiting the exciting EuropeanSleeper service to Milan! However, as is very often the case, both of their departures from here are severely delayed this evening... 🙄

Antwerpen-Centraal has platforms on three different levels, the upper and middle being terminus platforms, while high-speed trains run through the lower level. 🇧🇪

Finally got to visit the famous Antwerpen-Centraal, one of the most beautiful train stations anywhere in the world - just look at this beauty! 😍

Today's task involved riding a bunch of locomotives around Belgium. Never really spent much time here before, so it's nice to have a proper explore! 😁

Decided to pay a visit to Brussels-Chapel station today, that, despite its location right in the centre of the city, is only served by one train per hour! 👀 🇧🇪

The state of the @Eurostar (Thalys) trains these days, with leaky, falling-apart toilets, overflowing bins, and just general filth - this is a lousy excuse for a premium train. 🤮 Hopefully, I won't travel with Thalys trains again for many more years...

Now to ride Thalys (sometimes referred to as Eurostar) down to Brussels. If you've been following me for a while, you'll know I've had a lot of bad experiences with Thalys, let's see what happens! 👀

First thing I see in Amsterdam Centraal is this unusual charter train with some striking German retro liveries. Anyone know where it's going? 🤔

Welcome to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station, home to the Train Lodge Hostel, with rooms in these 1960s sleeper cars! Has anyone ever stayed here? 👀

Ever completely forgotten a train even existed? That's me with the NS SLT, which I went on today for the first time in years! 😅 They're pretty nice, and definitely better than the newer Sprinter units from CAF.

Heading over to Amsterdam with @KLM, my first flight on the impressive Embraer E2 jet, and a perfect morning to go with it! 🇳🇱😍

My seat for the 7hr ride from Berlin is a modern torture device. The seat base slopes downwards, resulting in strain as you perch to support yourself. With loose fixtures, as well as broken and/or missing recline - it's the worst carriage I could have hoped for on this trip! 😭

Time to head from Berlin to Kraków on the PKP Intercity EC train, a nice 7 hour trip through the country. Honestly after these intense two weeks, I think I will take a few days away from trains! 😂

What better way to celebrate a great few days at Innotrans than riding a few locomotives around in the tunnels of Berlin Hbf? 😁

And that's a wrap for #InnoTrans 2026, and what a great time it was! Though I do have to note the rather concerning trend of commuter trains on long-distance routes that was displayed... at least the future of night trains is looking good. 😊

Also thought I'd check out the future of UK train seats too, given how bleak the past decade has been. And while the bolt-upright posture is still unpleasant, they finally relented on the padding! 😃

Here's the future seat cushioning for the LNER 'Serenza' units (wtf is that name), which as you can see is very deep and soft. Interesting that this seat exists after years of claims that 'fire regulations' prevented comfy seats, isn't it! 👀

Train creators on-scene, checking out the train seats of the future - lots of very interesting products on offer for those who are willing to invest in passenger comfort! 😍

These units featured a massive hydrogen power pack in the middle, which is pretty much the same size as a carriage, and features a looooong corridor down the middle. This local unit is basically halfway to being considered loco-hauled! 😂

The future of narrow-gauge railways is these bright green hydrogen units from Stadler. I really liked the interior, it has a somewhat retro feel with the chequered green fabric. 😃

The Frecciarossa 1000 was once again on show at Innotrans, this time an ETR.410. As I visited it two years ago, I didn't go inside, but check out the close-ups on some of the stylish details this high-speed train features! 😍

Perhaps the most visually stand-out item on show at Innotrans was the CRRC Vellink driverless smart metro car, it's really unlike anything else on display here. Would you want these futuristic vehicles to win any orders for a European city near you? 👀

Talgo also showed a mock-up of their new night train for Sweden, highlighting the compact single room. Night trains are meant to be quiet and smooth, allowing you to sleep as you cover a long route. I hope these new Talgo trains will be able to fulfill that critical requirement...

The Luna Rail lab also featured the HotelPod, cleverly placing beds beneath a central corridor, some impressive tesselation work on show here! There's also a large screen, much like on a long-haul Business Class flight. 😃

There's more to night trains at Innotrans, with the Luna Rail lab, showcasing some of their creative solutions for the future of sleeping on the rails! This is their SeatPod, a lie-flat seat with a closing door, planned to be double stacked for higher capacity and lower ticket costs.

Now on to the ÖBB Stadler FLIRT Akku (Akkumulator/Battery), a standard regional unit for local lines in Austria. Believe it or not, this is probably the most comfortable Second Class seat on any of the three ÖBB trains on show here - some very strange design choices coming out of Austria lately! 🤔

Finally a good quality Second Class seat, here on the FLIRT NEX. These seats are a tried and tested design, with lots of padding, ergonomic design, wide winged headrests, recline, and more. What a great seat! 😃 And also a look at the children's play area, now customary for Norwegian trains.

The @diningcar.at on Norway's brand-new FLIRT NEX, man I can't wait to enjoy a warm cup of tea here as the snowy landscapes pass by... 😋 (By the way, proper dining seats are just behind the camera in the first photo!)

Next up, the Stadler FLIRT NEX for Norway's long-distance routes, and FINALLY something actually fit for long-distance travel! Would you do 7 hours in this ultra-comfy recliner seat? I know I would! 😍

Second Class on the double-decker Railjet, very hard seats and vending machines, unlike the loco-hauled sets with a restaurant car these will replace. Seems weird to lower standards to match the open-access operator on Wien-Salzburg, is this what competition is meant to do? 🤔

The other ÖBB Railjet on display is the Stadler KISS, intended for the Vienna-Salzburg semi-fast trains. Here's the First Class, which isn't too bad. I do quite like the pair of private suites at the end of the carriage, I'm sure they'll be very popular! 👀

Second Class on the new IC Coradia is even worse, with leg-dangling seats with almost no window, and an impractical folding seatback table that basically sits on your lap. Who designed this thing? 😭
